D7 Lyrics - Nirvana

Review The Song (21)

Straight as an arrow
Defect defect
Not straight, not so straight
Reject reject
Towards anti-social
Solo solo
Standing on the stairs
Cold, cold morning
Ghostly image of fear
Mayday mayday
Gonna leave this region
They'll take me with them
Dimension seven

Hm, I just thought it was about an introverted gay kid, whether or not Kurt had anything to do with the lyrics. That's what they say to me, and tha's what I feel the song represents. I mean, "Straight as an arrow", really seems to relate. "Defect, defect", many people consider homosexuality as a birth defect, for better or worse. "Not so straight, not so straight" back to the same thing. So, that's my interpretation. However, as a gay guy myself, I'm a bit biased to interpret it that way :p

In regards to it being a cover | Reviewer: Donald | 12/22/12

This means nothing in regards to the songs meanings for Cobain. All of us have a interpretation of a songs meaning or even a lyric that we don't even have right. The vast majority of what we think is wrong. There is a reason he picked a song. Say he liked it. Say maybe he was able to channel a relative meaning for himself into the song. Maybe he just wanted them to gain more attention as a band. It could be many things. But we don't know shit. As far as Mr. Kurdt and I go way back, the man is a bullshitter. I am going to give a variety of factual reasons this is the case:

1. If they truly went "way" back then I think that would have to mean Aberdeen WA. Towns like Aberdeen WA are all white. I know because I am not far from this area and they are all the same. Yes you would have VERY VERY few asians but the odds are extremely slim. You really only found them serving food. No lie.

2. The man is a student. Kurdt and I have a four year age difference. I'm sure not the fuck about to go back to school at this late period in life. My suggestion being, if they truly went way back they would be similar in age. And they could be. Maybe this man has decided a little over 15 years short of retirement he is going to reinvent the wheel. People only do this when forced. So fuck you. You have either lied to hide your identity or you don't know him at all. And who the fuck cares if you did know him. There are a lot of people who carry the same beasts on their backs who most likely have a lot more insight than anybody.

I am so pissed off with everybody here, you are all chinese and I am the only true nirvana fan, my name is Hau Lang Xhi and you all damn suck. Name dropping bands and being so self important. Please don't bother replying to my original post because I already know only my opinion matters here against you losers. I'm studying computer science and I'm going to take over your whole world ok. Everybody needs to get a life because me and Kurt go way back.

This is the only wipers song i've ever heard, however I prefer kurt's interpretaion (sorry wipers fans). I'd like to listen to more wipers one day when i get around to it. pretty sure the lyrics are about contemplating suicide. I've felt this way and the lyrics seem to capture the essence of that emotion. very well done.

Think twice | Reviewer: Samuel | 6/28/11

Guys,

All your interpretations are very tought-of and very interesting. But you guys seem to forget one thing: Nirvana (or kurt) has not written this song, it's a cover from The Wipers, a band that heavily influenced Nirvana

I respect all points of view, and I really think each of us have a really good ponit of view. But mine tells me that this song talk about soldiers who were in the war and they are still afraid, they have a disturb in their minds.

My interpretation | Reviewer: Kristen | 10/3/10

I honestly think this song is song is talking about his childhood, and his teenage years. He was very antisocial, and had these feelings during his teenage years, and as a child always had thoughts & and i suppose dreams, of not actually belonging to his family but actually put here by aliens, so i would say hes expressing how he feels here, where he dosen't belong, and one day the aliens, whom he dreamed he belonged to as a child, will come and get him back, and take him to d-7.

Coincidence | Reviewer: Tyler | 5/5/10

This isn't really a review of the song, or an interpretation of the meaning, but just a kinda interesting story. The first time that I had heard this song, was while waiting at an airport in Seattle, and guess where I was? I was waiting for the plane at gate D-7. I've just always found that to be kinda weird.

Go play some Game Boy and leave us alone! | Reviewer: ProuDane | 12/12/09

First of all I think this song is great, the sudden change of tempo is truly awesome.
However, the main reason for writing here is the despicable Fun Guy, who annoyed me so thoroughly that I felt that I simply couldn't ignore him.
First of all, have you ever heard the saying "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones"? It is used occasionally in Denmark, where I live - so YES, English is my second language. My point with this is that though you have been annoyed by a previous comment that you thought was an attempt to be cool, you play cool yourself - "i was pretty sure that songs were "written."" and "by the way... just so you know, defect defect isn't even signed" are examples hereof. You criticize other people's grammar, and albeit you are clearly familiar with capital letters, you do not use them after periods, nor do you write "I", "English", etcetera correctly. In addition, you place your quotation marks incorrectly. Also, your lame opinion about not being able to love someone you've never met contradicts your hatred of these nice people, whom you so want to trash; if you can't love someone you've never met, then how can you hate someone you've never met? I strongly disagree with you on this one too - I have never met you, yet I certainly hate you with a passion. Secondly, your frustration of commenting too late makes no sense; if you had commented earlier, there wouldn't have been any comments which you could trash (which you, for whichever reason, lust after doing). Thus, (though your comment doesn't have a point anyway) you would have nothing to write about - except perhaps your "mother's rotten vagina", which apparently fascinates you. Go play with that, or play on a Game Boy, so that hopefully neither I nor anyone else will bump into you ever again.
Thank you in advance, a Danish fan of good music.

funguy is big f$@king dick with too much time on his hands. what right do you have to critize others grammers or posts for that matter? Fans will be fans as I am one of them. You should have ran down your mommy's leg instead of being born. Love live Kurt's music...peace.

Eat shit | Reviewer: This song is good though. | 7/25/09

Sorry, this isn't much of a review, despite how brilliant this song is. I'm just pissed about "fun guy" putting people down for fun. Miserable fucks like you shouldn't even exist. Not to mention most of your "reasons that everyone in the world sucks" aren't even valid? You can't "make" a song? Last I checked, making something is to create it. Has this changed lately. You also said it makes us sound like "teeny-bopper little girls" when we call him Kurt. I think in this context it sounds a bit redundant and unnecessary to call him Kurt Cobain every time that we refer to him. Calling him "Mr. Cobain" like you did is another option, but this is pretty damn absurd too. If I asked you to name The Beatles would you call them "Mr. McCartney, Mr. Harrison, Mr. Lennon, and Mr. Starkey?" I didn't think so. Quit being a fucking tool and keep your misery to yourself.

antisocial | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/25/09

well i think its a very criptical song, with an amount of different possible interpretations, heres mine, i think hes joking about a bunch of martians that kidnap him or some, thats the dimension 7, and it happens that he likes it thats why he became 'antisocial'. 'straight', 'arrow' and all that terminology refers to the social spot i'd say

by the way, fun guy, we do not have to live with your frustration for not having made the scene in music, thats your fucking business and you stink with your mr.know-all attitude, if the girl likes nirvana, just leave her alone!

ok i appreciate your concern. all apologies for my writing, english is my second language

D7 - Dimension 7 | Reviewer: darthrevan13 | 5/21/08

Well, I think firstly he is talking about perfection, "straight as an arrow", because that's what he would want to be, but he realizes he is not perfect at all, because the arrow because "not so straight":

"Defect defect
Not straight, not so straight"

After that he explains he's fear about having these defects.

"Reject reject
Towards anti-social
Solo solo"

So because of this he slowly becomes slowly introverted, a very EMO like attitude.

"Standing on the stairs
Cold, cold morning"

Nobody sits on the stairs in the morning especially when it's cold. This is a sign of complete introversion.

"Ghostly image of fear
Mayday mayday
Gonna leave this region
They'll take me with them"

He's becoming afraid of this, so he is screaming for help, but their is no answer, so the "ghosts", by that meaning the fears will take him into the next dimension, by that meaning he will pass away.

My God! | Reviewer: Fun Guy | 5/18/08

i wish i wasn't late commenting on this... that way, some of you idiots could read it. anyway, concerning this comment:

"even if this isn't a song made by my best idol Kurt Cobain, it's still kurt that we can hear sing it on "with the lights out" and thats what i love, his voice! thats is the most important i think :D
BTW...I LOVE YOU Kurt, and i hope all of us do
R.I.P will see you in heaven(:"

what the fuck is a "best idol?" huh? i really hope english is your second language. his voice is the most important aspect of his art? what the fuck? would you say that if he was the frontman of the Bee Gees?
and you LOVE a man you've never met? you LOVE a man that was probably dead before you were even born? do you have any idea how stupid you sound? i imagine your father is rather ashamed of you. and you hope all of us love him? what is that supposed to mean? why would that matter? but i suppose you've got a good head on your shoulders. i'm sure Mr. Cobain is going to be thrilled to bump into you in "heaven." and how the fuck is a song "made?" i was pretty sure that songs were "written."

and for whoever posted this comment:

"Without the Wipers Nirvana would be nothing. And without this song the punk band DEFECT DEFECT wouldn't exist. They are awesome."

your post should read: "I'm so fucking punk rock! i can name-drop bands most people haven't heard of! i'm so fucking cool! you haven't heard of these bands and i have! popular bands are so uncool! (mainly because i couldn't achieve the popularity i so deperately wanted in high school.) it's true. success is for losers. the best bands in the world don't sell records. period." (by the way... just so you know, defect defect isn't even signed. and they suck.)why would a band that sounds NOTHING like Nirvana name themselves after a NIRVANA song that wasn't written by NIRVANA? and since the wipers wrote the song and are SO MUCH BETTER than Nirvana, how are they naming themselves after Nirvana? probably because they haven't heard of the wipers. only you have.

i bet you had problems with the following sort of questions on tests in high school:
if the wipers wrote D-7 but nirvana covered the song, and some shitty bunk band named themselves after lyrics in the song, which band did the shitty "punk" band name themselves after?
a.) the wipers
b.) nirvana
c.) my mother's rotten vagina

and for everyone that refers to kurt cobain by his first name: you all sound like teeny-bopper little girls - like you have a fucking "crush" on him or something. you're not fooling anyone. you're not on a first name basis with "kurt." at least not Kurt Cobain.

i'd kill myself too if i played shows for a bunch of people like y'all. just a sea of people missing the point.
