Jefferson Airplane D.C.B.A. 25 Lyrics

Last updated: 10/22/2014 06:09:31 PM

(Paul Kantner)

It's time you walked away
set me free
I must move away
leave you be...
time's been good to us, my friend
wait and see how it will end
we come and go as we please...
we come and go as we please...
that's how it must be

Here in crystal chandelier, I'm home
too many days, I've left unstoned
if you don't mind happiness
purple-pleasure fields in the Sun
ah, don't you know I'm runnin' home...
don't you know I'm runnin' home...
to a place to you unknown?

I take great peace in your sitting there
searching for myself, I find a place there
I see the people of the world
where they are and what they could be...

I can but dance behind your smile...
I can but dance behind your smile...

you were the world to me for a while

peace vs ease? | Reviewer: Lance Storm | 10/10/14

A great song -- one the best on the album. Surrealistic Pillow is one of the all-time greatest albums; such a long time ago; so full of optimism; poignancy; songs of new love, dying love; needing love; rekindling love ... plus one white rabbit.

I think the first two lines of the 3rd verse in D.C.B.A. - 25 are:

I take great ease [not peace] in your sitting there
searching for myself, and [not I] find a place there.

I'm so glad to read these beautiful reviews of such a sublime song! It does get overlooked because it's on one of the most iconic 60's masterpieces of all time. "Surrealistic Pillow" is sheer brilliance all the way through-a musical treasure to me.

In answer to Chris's question.... "What does "D.C.B.A.-25" mean? | Reviewer: Chris | 11/13/2008" "D-C-B-A" are the chords, -25 is a reference to LSD-25. A timeless melody, heartfelt lyrics & Harmonies.... One of my favorite songs ever.

I don't think there is a dud among any of the songs in "Surrealistic Pillow." The only other album I could say that about is Santana's "Abraxas."
Grace and Paul & Co. manage to provide sufficient variety that the songs each stand on their own.
Besides, I fell in love with Gracie - along with MANY others, no doubt.

This song is an overlooked jewel in the Airplane's crown. Kantner's lyrics and melody are brilliant--so simple, yet so evocative and effective. It's my favorite cut on the Surrealistic Pillow album.
