story of Cutting Crew could be an interesting one, for they
are a band that came together almost entirely because of
unforseen events.

Although the band has only been together a few years, it
took years of individual experience to make them

seventies, when he was managed by ex-Animal Chas Chandler,

I knew someone with something to do with this song. It is about a guy losing his virginity. He wasn't well as he had leukemia and didn't want to die a virgin. He had feelings for this girl he knew since he was a toddler. She was a performer, writer, etc. She was in an unhappy marriage she got forced into. Her abusive husband made her do things with people for money against her will. When the guy showed up she did recognize him and wondered why he was around. He was safer away from her nutjob husband(whom later she divorced). He had fallen in love with her and he kept pushing her buttons til she confronted them. They talked and she slept with him. Then he had brought an amethyst ring and he proposed to her saying he knew she wasn't big on diamonds. She couldn't really give him an answer as she had no job despite trying her inlaws would interfere and tell people she was working. She had no place to go and her family wasn't supportive. He told her to keep the ring and think about it. Not long after her husband breaks down the hotel room door of a Best Western. He says time is up though she said to him he still has another 5-10 minutes. He drags her out in the rain. She tries to hide the ring knowing if her husband see's it he'll sell it. She convinces him to let her say goodbye to the other man. She carefully gives him the ring so her husband doesn't see. She apologizes but says she can't have it because of the situation and says goodbye and that she loves him and to live for her if he has nothing else to live for. That is the story of this song.

This is actually one of the most lyrically realistic love songs I've heard. It also soothes like love song harmonies and melodies typically do. I've noticed that I feel a desire to hear this song as I continuously fight to stay free of the painful snares that accompany falling or being in love...yet life and living pretty empty yet safe without it. What do YOU do??? I remember I've been in love through this song...Though I'll never admit in person...

I love the song but its not about loosing his virginity... its about regretting when he went back with an ex for one night. I personally thought it was about a night he spent with a girl he loved but didnt love him back. or maybe a night with a hooker lol. not as exciting but never mind... still a good song!

I've always loved this song, came into work this morning and the woman in the next office over had it playing on her radio so I finally looked up the lyrics.

I don't really see how it's about lost virginity, but that makes as much sense as anything else I guess. I always thought it was about a man finding out his girlfriend was cheating on him. That he "died" in her arms when she told him about the other guy, or when he smelled another man on her skin. This is certainly more upbeat than that (though the whole "name on a list" comment takes it back the other way for me).

To me this song is about forbidden love. At least that is how I relate to it. Awesome song and I agree with Bharat it is awesome to listent o it while driving and thinking of dying in someone's arms ;)

I fall in for this song when I was plying GTA vice city game. It was in my head all the time then look for meaning and found the meaning. Its really cool song but I didn't got that this song says about losing virginity. Its amazing.

I heard this song and many other 80's artists as child (Parents listened to everything). I was sifting through my Comedy and Jimmy Fallon was singing the chorus in a parody. Oh and FYI Music is all about sex, drugs and fame. I think we all feel the same way when we actually lose our virginity to the right person. Most people don't but I did.
