Cry For The Moon Lyrics - Epica

Review The Song (11)

Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
Behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever

Indoctrinated minds so very often
Contain sick thoughts
And commit most of the evil they preach against

Don’t try to convince me with messengers from God
You accuse us of sins committed by yourselves
It’s easy to condemn without looking in the mirror
Behind the scenes opens reality

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
Behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever

Virginity has been stolen at very young ages
And the extinguisher loses its immunity
Morbid abuse of power in the garden of Eden
Where the apple gets a youthful face

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
Behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget

You can’t go on hiding yourself
Behind old fashioned fairytales
And keep washing your hands in innocence

I always beg for you to God | Reviewer: Victor Rex | 12/29/12

Though it is bad to blame someone's thought,it is much worst to put a great pressure of disgrace to God's servants(church).Anyone(incl me) can sin but by the grace of God , we can ask for His everlasting mercy.Though we exclaimed ourself as His son,we don't stop sinning in our day to day life. Why? ...........it's just because we merely are Sinners, borne of Sins and to die bcoz of our Sins.It is also a sin to blame others(as in "Dont blame others before looking into a mirror").In short, all of us can sin and ought of forgiveness(to human and God) .Jesus Christ .....................well even the most sinned beings.Hallelui jah to the ALMIGHTY!

at the beginning when i hear it the first time i didn't get what they were saying (am from Mexico) i though it was about hiding behind lies (fairytale)living in a wonder world but now i know what they are saying i was in shock i love how they talk about a polemic issue the rapes in the churches

EPICA ROCKS FOREVER AND EVER

The virginity part is almost certainly not literal (altho I must admit that's one funny interpretation XD)

The "virginity", imho, means the purity of young children whose minds have yet to be tainted by religion's corrupted way of thinking.

Hi again Emily, I also wanted to add that I think that the extinguisher is the human virtue of distinguishing between right and wrong, a virtue that is raped once religion enters your head.
Just like in that Steven Weinberg quote...

I probably sound like an ass, but I want to say that no interpretation is wrong and everyone has their own notions of what the song is about, just try to be less literal..

Probably My Favourite Epica Song | Reviewer: Emily | 9/9/10

I love this song, and it's meaning especially. It's talking about how people join the church to hide from their "sins" (the hiding behind a fairytale part), and also talks about how some priests will mollest children (viginity being stolen at a young age and the extinguisher has lost its immunity). This might be way off, but is the "forgiveness is not for sale" part talking about the priests paying the children's families to keep them quiet? Idk if they do, I could be wrong, but that was my first thought. Anyway, the lyrics are so true, and it's one of the reasons I love Epica.

Great song misunderstands indulgences | Reviewer: Tihamer Toth-Fejel | 8/20/09

It is certainly true that "Forgiveness is not for sale". But forgiveness is not free, either. Remember what it cost you to forgive someone who hurt you badly?

Is it not true that sin hurts people? It also blinds the sinner who tries to cover up and/or justify it. So even if God forgives your sin in eternity, there are still real, practical consequences that we, as sinners should make up for. Often we are ignorant of who we hurt, especially given the secondary effects of sin. That is a logical justification for indulgences - it's a convenient way for people to make up for all they hurt they caused. The Catholic Church just acted as the middleman between the sinners and the those who were hurt.
Of course, such a money stream will corrupt any but the most holy of saints. And it will attract the vilest of sinners. As Scott Peck (a Unitarian) pointed out in his book "People of the Lie: A Psychiatric Examination of Evil", evil people love to hide in churches because that is the nature of evil -- to pretend to be good. I highly recommend Peck's book - it is fascinating. You won't be able to put it down.

I love this song it speaks about the catolic church and it remembers me how was created the lutheran church "forgivness is not for sell nor is the will of forget" the Lutheran church was created bcause the catolic church was selling for money the "forgivness" of God(you pay for a paper that said "God forgives you") and Epica is from Germany and if my memory doesnt fail most of people in Germany are lutherans

sorry if my english is not very good im Chilean

My Beliefs | Reviewer: Joseph Johnson | 7/28/08

This is a totally dynamic band who are not afraid to speak the truth of the Church and behavior not becoming a human that comes from the owners of these churches. From my metal band(Burnt Virtue) to theirs-Rock on!

i like epica | Reviewer: carlos | 12/28/07

I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG, BECAUSE IT TELLS JUST THE TRUTH. THERE ARE A LOT OF CHURCHES THAT TRY TO TEACH OF GOD, BUT THE SAME TEACHERS ARE COMMITING SINS. I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG, AND I WOULD LIKE THAT EVERYBODY COULD KNOW THIS SONG.

The Simple Truth | Reviewer: Yager | 4/14/07

I first heard the song early this mornin when a friend of my boyfriend sent it to him for my bf and I to listen to. The beginning was a littl weird but when it really started going more and more into the song, I loved it. Now that I know the words to it, I love it even more, because it speaks the truth about most religions that hide behind doors of God this and God that, but they are the ones commiting most of the sins in this world. Im happy to say out loud and proud that I am an Epica fan and look forward to listening to the rest and to future music from them....KEEP ROCKIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
