When, in 1976, punk first spewed itself across the nation's
headlines with the message 'do it yourself', we, who in
various ways and for many years had been doing just that,
naively believed that Messrs. Rotten, Strummer etc. etc.
meant it. At last we weren't alone.

The idea of becoming a band had never seriously occurred to
us, it simply happened. Basically anyone was free to join
in and rehearsals were rowdy affairs that invariably
degraded into little more than drunken parties. Steve and
Penny had been writing and playing together since early
'77, but it wasn't until Summer of that year that we had
begged, borrowed and stolen enough equipment to actually
call ourselver a band....CRASS.

Having finally managed to rehearse five songs, we set out
on the road to More...

    Review about Crass

    A true anarchist | Reviewer: mlr440
        ------ About artist/band Crass

28 years ago a teacher at school grabbed out of my hand one of those printed pamphlets that were handed out at a CRASS gig in Edinburgh Scotland, his words still ring in my head,"get that punk rock nonsense out of your head!". i never got it back, but began cutting stencils and making t-shirts and have never stopped, i recently helped carry the coffin of a friend who i met in Australia, where i now live with my (small) family. garry was a true anarchist, he was a carer for the mentally disabled and a campainer for the rights of the individual, we shared a kindred spirit for punk and the true belief in the power of the people, i grew up through those thatcher years in Scotland and had to find work as the vast majority were being screwd to the wall, that gig in Edinburgh opened my eyes forever. its not something you forget, nor a geezer like Garry, Live on mate and fuck the system. "Wealth is a ghetto"

        ------ About artist/band Crass

Animal Rights-Atheism had tiny flares but never got off the ground. Instead, we got the incessant whining about the ubiquitous "posers" and the Anti-Reagan fun part. But there was no foundation other than the underlying Homo Sapien baloney that started 15,000 years ago.

Such a good song... | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Big A, Little A performed by Crass

im 15 and my dad got me into crass, and they just inspired me completely...

I love the lyrics, so true. You have to be constantly suspicious of power and stuff, but violence will get you nowhere.

and be exactly who you want to be - completely :)

I love this song "ello ello ello!"

I also love Bata Motel. I love her voice.

        ------ About artist/band Crass

it was the people not crass everybody was and is blind. crass were one of the fist bands bands in the scene and pretty much the only one that never sold out so i could see why they would think that they didnt make a difference but i want them to know that punk and anarchy would not be what it is at all if crass hadnt existed the problem was they were speaking to a deaf crowd back then people wanted to see guys dress like girls and listen to disgraceful glam rock nobody had revolution on there mind they were perfectly happy being slaves.it really pains me to see these things what with losing most of the revolutionists and anarchists and now knowing that crass felt so futile its not the beliefs or any of that its UNITY so many people have forgotten the meaning of that word crass was trying to unite with a crowd that would not commit to the cause what we really need is for all the anarchists to unite and we can stand strong above all of the governments shit. without crass i think all of us would be slaves like most of the world.

"Nothings really different cos all governments the same"

"They can call it freedom but slaverys the game"

------ About the song Big A, Little A performed by Crass

this is still a call to wake-up and question the order you were born into. life is bigger than all that shit.

the comment on the social control function of religion is more on-topic now than ever imo.

    very relevant | Reviewer: fred
------ About the song Big A, Little A performed by Crass

this song is so relevant, as "steve" said. it was true when it was written, and still is true, even if your not willing to believe it. violence does nothing, because they'll always be back for more

More relevant today than ever | Reviewer: AnarchoAlan
        ------ About artist/band Crass

Having read this biography of Crass, which i believe was written by Penny Rimbaud, it seems to me that although the band believed that after 7 years of dissent towards an unfair system that has bullied and killed the working class into submission, their shouts and words had fallen on deaf ears, i would like to say here that this is not the case, Crass and the bands that they promoted on their label had a huge influence on the youth of the day that hung on their every word, you just need to look at the amount of resistance that follows the G8 summits to see. In the case of myself it prompted me to question everything and read up more on social history, to make my own informed views, my views stayed the same, i became an Anarchist in 1978, i have stayed this way for 29 years now, their lyrics have only become dated by the names of the political leaders and events only, the message is still there, change Thatcher to Brown, Reagan to Bush, Falklands to Iraq... etc, you get the picture, situations and names have changed but the crap still goes on, and it is up to us as individuals to form groups question authority in all forms do not let them get away with bullying us into believing their way is the right way.

If anyone involved with Crass ever happens to read this, please believe your work was never in vain, you did make a difference and as long as we can pass our message to our children the movement will never die, thank you for opening my eyes and making my life richer with your music, the new friends i made and still have from the anarchist punk network and the rules that I have set to make the place i live a better one for all concerned.

"There is no authority but yourself"
    Love, Peace, Freedom, Equality

One of my favorite CRASS songs, it makes so much sence, at first with the screaming "AINT IT JUST A RIPOFF OI OI OI" i was like eh... but then i listened to it and read the lyrics and now its one of my favs! I definatly reccomend this song!

------ About the song Big A, Little A performed by Crass

this is without doubt one of the most relevant songs ever written . you cannot deny any of the lyrics, maybe if you are one of the sheep you may not agree, but that explains itself.
relevant??? it is now as it was then, maybe even more so.
why conform? who are you to say that i should?
'be exactly what you want to be, do what you wanna do'
    why not!?!?!
