There is nothing I love more than when a rapper takes the time to reflect on crucial societal issues that due to a feeling of powerlessness, some choose to ignore. As Blacks, we often undergo huge perplexities when it comes to religious affiliation. Speaking now, I have been in such a maze where I am bewildered as to which religion to follow particularly between Islam and Christianity. As the song suggests, one's historical and self-awareness is the focal point. Common makes the issue so simple as he says: "as long as you know it's a being that's supreme to you". Cee-lo brilliantly executes the last chorus of this song, so much so that it brought tears to my eyes the first couple of times I heard it.
