Comfortably numb Lyrics
Artist(Band):Pink Floyd
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, Come on, Come on, now,
I hear you're feeling down.
I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I'll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a FEVER My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
(solo)
I have become comfortably numb.
O.K.
Just a little pin prick.
There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
but I have become comfortably numb.

Any one who has done heroin can relate to this song. I have done it myself, and it is actually not as scary as the authorities make it out to be. It makes you comfortable and eases pain, which was why it was developed by a drug company in the first place. It slows your brain for a time and temporarily you don't have to think or feel.
searingly powerful | Reviewer: Ardeth | 5/29/09
I love this song and it brings back many memories of being comfortably numb on cannibis.
The dark sinister edge to the music is wonderful and the second guitar solo is searing..it doesn't glamourise heroin , nor does it scare you off it, I'd say it makes the lethal drug sound quite appealing..but if you listen to the menacing keyboards in the background..they are saying something altogether different. COMFORTABLY NUMB IS A WORK OF GENUIS.
just listen... | Reviewer: ufo | 5/20/09
no matter what is about lyric, probably it's about some event, that has happend in david's life(or roger, or...)and so in this song the main is music, it's great! i don't listen words cause it's impossible to understand what he means...
ok | Reviewer: anthony | 5/18/09
listen. a songs meaning is what ever you make it to be. everyone has their own interpretation on what its about. no one is right or wrong. something dosent have to mean one thing. if a picture has a million words then so can a song.
Communication | Reviewer: Hal | 4/22/09
It is about communicating on another level. The waves that carry the signals like voices and images...he's experiencing this and everyone wants a signal still..."squeeze my hand Mr. Water's, can you squeeze my hand". I've been there. Anywhere the frontal cortex isn't in control. Drugs, illness, or a good hit the the head :) May be able to get there another way: meditate instead of medicate.
stop saying that your interpretation is fact | Reviewer: asdf | 4/18/09
According to Rolling Stone the lyrics came from Roger Waters' experience when he was injected with tranquillizers for hepatitis by a doctor prior to playing a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the band's 1977 tour for the Animals album.[3][4] "That was the longest two hours of my life," Waters said. "Trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm." The experience gave him the idea which became the lyrics to this song.
Sad Song | Reviewer: GM | 3/26/09
You're all right, there are different interpretations for this song. My wife's last wish was to have this played at her funeral, because she was in a lot of pain and would be comfortably numb. At least that's how I interpreted her thoughts. 40 yrs old and gone, now every time I hear this song I see the day we buried her.
Great song and lyrics.
meaning | Reviewer: tc | 3/8/09
this song is obviously about doing heroin
(Come on, now, I hear you're feeling down.
I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.....
O.K.
Just a little pin prick.
There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick)
easing pain=doing drugs
pin prick=shooting up heroin
feeling a little sick= ppl get sick after when they do heroin
quite simple | Reviewer: ABOMB | 2/13/09
Its acually quite simple and doesnt need any interpretations. Its well known that Syd Barrett had completely lost it. In Floyds last shows with Syd he would be completely out of it, so a doc would come in and give hime drugs to "keep him going for the show"

This song is one of Pink Floyds best. It is a well written song which can mean something different for each individual listener, as all good songs should be. It is best not to try and work out what the band wanted it to mean, just enjoy it!
