Hardcore has always been a big influence in Coalesce, and
the aggressiveness of this style stayed as the basic
formula for Coalesce's writing. In the first year together,
playing whatever basement shows they could, Coalesce was
experimenting with off-times and different structures. In
time they started to refine their formula for song writing
and put out the 7"/cd ep "002", which was released by
Earache Records. Coalesce went on the road with Bloodlet
and 108 for a six week tour. The tour pushed this new
approach to hardcore and their "002" ep further than they
expected. After successfully completing the summer tour (on
a shoestring budget of $50 a show) and scoring favor with
critics everywhere, Coalesce got their break. Earache
