Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy) Lyrics
Artist(Band):Rodney Atkins
(Marla -Goodman/Casey Beathard)
The declaration of independence
Think I can tell you that first sentence
But then I'm lost
I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head that I forgot
I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forgot
Chorus:
Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl her mama's world
She deserves respect, that's what she'll get, ain't it son
Now y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I'll be up all night
Still cleaning this
Well now that I'm a father
I'm scared to death one day my daughter's gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
Who seems to have just one thing on his mind
She's growing up so fast it won't be long
'fore I'll have to put the fear of God
Into some kid at the door
Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl, her momma's world
She deserves respect, thats what she'll get
Ain't it son, ya'll run on and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleaning this
It's all for show, ain't nobody gonna get hurt
it's just a daddy thing, hey believe me man, it works
Now Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl, her momma's world
She deserves respect, thats what she'll get
Ain't it son, ya'll run on and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleaning this
Ha ha
now son now yall buckle up and have her back by 10
no 9..30
drive safe

Interesting | Reviewer: Shelley | 7/13/2008That song is nothin but the truth. Because boy do take advantage of a girl and dont care what the girls thinks about it. They'll do absolutley anything and I'm not jokin. My dad heard the song and felt the exact same way.
GREAT WORK!!!

With some of the boys that have tried to date his stepdaughters, I don't blame Rodney in the least bit for this song; call us "gun-toting rednecks" all you want, but sweetheart, this is Tennessee and some boys today are crazy. I'm 22, and have known BOTH of the girls all their lives. I myself, have even stood up to some of the guys asking them out and told them no. Having hidden the youngest one from a friend of mine, and had to use force to make him leave her alone after she told him about ten times in a parking lot that she wasnt interested, then yes I understand this perfectly. Funny thing is, I can see Rodney sittin on his front porch with the lil dog, waiting on the girls to come home, and yes, even cleaning his gun while doing so. Kudos to Rodney on this song!
great song | Reviewer: cody | 3/31/2008
lot of complaining about rednecks in these reviews, then some complaints about guns and teens. well for the people that complain about that PISS OFF!!! its a song its someones opionon they sang it you dont like it go listen to something else. everyone likes there own songs they go on it cheers there day up, but for some people they hear a song and just have to sit and complain- o you did not capitalize god or you should not say guns and teens in the same sentence blaa blaa blaa... its a song go cry somewhere else i listen to country and rock and i hear no problems in any of there songs, words, meanings. i am 23 and have heard the same complaints for 10 years. i am young but for those that just like to sit and argue grow up darn. peace to the ones that think this song is good cause i heard it from a man's mouth kept me in line.
I LOVEE THIS SONG!! | Reviewer: Rebecca | 3/29/2008
When I first heard this song I was like OH MY GOSH that is SO MY DAD!!! Because my dad always jokes about that kinda stuff..and it made me think about this one guy that I am/was "talking" to..because the first time he actually came INTO my house we all sat down..and my dad was asking him questions..but jeeez do i LOVE THIS SONG!! And I just HAD to let my dad hear it..and he liked it :] and the whole time he was listening to it he was smiling..and i was about to cry..lol but anyways.. :]
I don't care what they say! | Reviewer: Lindsay | 2/18/2008
I don't give a crap about what people say because one it's a song and to it is a wonderful song at that!! People like that one person who made the rude comment can go get off some where because obviously they dont have good taste in musice and listen to CRAP!! I love your music, And everything. Well I have had my say so. Thanks, Byez

Respect | Reviewer: Gretchen | 12/21/2007
"I love this song but if your gonna submit lyrics have respect for out country and for God. Even if your an athiast God is a name that NEEDS to be capitalized. I still love the song"
ummm... no it doesn't. first off, learn to spell atheist, before you criticize them, & secondly, if i don't believe in god, then to me it's just another word, so there's no reason i should have to capitalize it.

I agree with the guy right below me. I have a daughter and I am a gun toting businessman. What do you think about that. There is no such thing as gun violence, only people violence. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. If everyone carried a gun then there would actually be a lot less violence. But these sissy boy punks (like the person who commented about rednecks below) are too girly to learn how to shoot a gun, at least that is the way it looks to me. Just wanted to put my comment out there. Rodney Atkins is a cool guy, keep writing the songs just like this.

My wife heard this song before I did and she just had to call me. She said you gotta hear this song. They wrote it about you. I have three daughters age 10,11 &12 and that is exactly the kind of father I am. As for that guy commenting on gun toting rednecks...maybe he should think about the fact that it is because of us gun toting rednecks that he has the freedom to walk the streets a free man!
I Love This song | Reviewer: Ariel | 1/22/2008
Yea the firts time i heard this song i just started laughing because it just reminds me so much of my dad. I'm still not allowed to date but he said when I start he will get the boy to help him clean his guns.
Mama's take . . . | Reviewer: Anne | 1/16/2008
I'm the mother of three girls, all of whom are still little (six years to five months), but they'll grow up someday. I love this song, ever since it first came out! Whenever it comes on, I crank it, and laugh like crazy. My older two girls look at me like I'm nuts (the baby just likes me to sing along with the radio), but they just don't understand. I joke that I'll have to get a pistol permit before they're teenagers, though . . . and I plan to crank this song every time a boy shows up!!!
