Class Of '57 Lyrics - The Statler Brothers

Review The Song (7)

Tommy's selling used cars, Nancy's fixing hair,
Harvey runs a grocery store and Margaret doesn't care.
Jerry drives a truck for Sears and Charlotte's on the make,
And Paul sells life insurance and part time real estate.

Helen is a hostess, Frank works at the mill,
Janet teaches grade school and prob'ly always will.
Bob works for the city and Jack's in lab research,
And Peggy plays the organ at the Presbyterian Church.

And the class of '57 had its dreams,
Oh, we all thought we'd change the world with our great words and deeds.
Or maybe we just thought the world would change to fit our needs,
The class of '57 had its dreams.

Betty runs a trailer park, Jan sells Tupperware,
Randy's on an insane ward, Mary's on welfare.
Charlie took a job with Ford, Joe took Freddie's wife,
sponsored links
Charlotte took a millionaire, and Freddie took his life.

John is big in cattle, Ray is deep in debt,
Where Mavis finally wound up is anybody's bet.
Linda married Sonny, Brenda married me,
And the class of all of us is just a part of history.

And the class of '57 had its dreams,
But living life from day to day is never like it seems.
Things get complicated when you get past eighteen,
But the class of '57 had its dreams.
Oh, the class of '57 had its dreams.

Our Song | Reviewer: lmn | 2/4/14

I graduated in 1957 with a class of 136. A male quartet from our class that sang together in High School got together again and sang this song for our 25 year reunion and again for our 50 year reunion in 2007. We could easily plug in names of our own classmates and there wasn't a dry eye in the room!

Great times | Reviewer: Carol Bowman | 7/16/13

What memories of living life back then. My husband, John, (now deceased) was a cattle broker! How ironic and he bought lots of his cattle out of VA in the area the Statlers grew up.

I graduated in '57 and with a small class. It was the most wonderful time to be alive. Life was out there waiting for us, and we thought we were ready for it. Some of us were and some were not. Most of us have kept in touch, and the 3 or 4 that didn't missed a lot.

This song is such an accurate summary of how life plays out. I came to this site to get the lyrics so I can make them a part of my life's scrapbook. It was fun to read them again. How did the Statler brothers know?

great song | Reviewer: aj | 7/15/07

Im under 30 but I love this song. great tune. kurt vonnegut thinks it could replace the national anthem. which is a darn good review in my opinion!
