The line should read, 'I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel, I'll sell my only spinning wheel.' It's not about fishing guys, its about the tools the lady uses to spin thread. A 'rock' is a distaff, a reel is used to wind the thread into skeins and the spinning wheel...well...that should be self explanatory.

I like this song. I was glad to find the lyrics to it, especially when I found the Englis translation. I could tell that it was being sung mostly in the Irish Gaelic tongue, but I really wanted to know what was being sung! Anyway, this page is really helpful.

Evenso wanted my brother this song on his funeral.
In 2003 and 2007 my both sisters had this song on theis funeral.

I find everthing about this song the be lovely, inspiring, and captivating in every way possible. Clannad did an excellent job of performing this masterpiece. The Indian words from two of the great nations of North America help to establish our American heritage deeply in the powerful song. I highly recommend the book,movie,soundtrack and this song.
