I never liked this apple much
It always seemed too big to touch
I can't remember how I found
My way before she came around
I tell everyone
I smile just because
I've got a city love
I found it in Lydia
And I can't remember life before her name
She keeps a toothbrush at my place
As if I had the extra space
She steals my clothes to wear to work
I know - her hairs are on my shirts
I tell everyone
I smile just because
I've got a city love
I found it in Lydia
And I can't remember life before
The day
She called up and came to me
Covered in rain
And dinnertime shadowing
And as her clothes spun, we spooned
And I knew I was through
When I said "I love you"
Friday evening, we've been drinking
2 AM, I swear that I might propose
but we close the tab
split a cab
and call each other up when we get home
falling asleep to the sound
of sirens
I got a city love
I found it in Lydia
From the battery
To the gallery
It's the kind of thing you only see
In scented, glossy magazines

Review about City Love New Old Find | Reviewer: Punzee | 11/23/09
I decided on a whim to pick up Room for Squares at the same time I bought the new John Mayer album, Battle Studies, and I was equally impressed with both! I had all his albums (except his FIRST release, Inside Wants Out) and realized I should go ahead and pick up Room For Squares. I love this song for the reasons a lot of others did, the orchestral addition to the song. I looked up the lyrics today because i love singing his songs while driving around and I think it's made me love the song even more! He has SUCH a way with his lyrics not to mention those fingers (on the guitar, that is.. lol)
This is one of my favorites. The guitar is well done. The orchestra is well balanced and sounds well with the style of the song. Each line has a meaning and contributes to the overall message. Just pure briliant
during a concert he switched things up a little, changing the lyric of falling asleep to the sound of sirens, to falling asleep to the sound of phone sex, overall good song, hes got some better ones tho, john mayer is a great musician, one of the bests
John's clever way of putting together a , not only good sounding song, but a very cleverly built one with very good realistic lyrics is just plain clever and artistic.
1. String/Orchestra sound adds "thickness" to the sound and emotions.
2. Guitar unison with John's voice in some parts like the beginning of each stanza is very nice and adds to the impact of the words.
3. the part where "2 AM, I swear I might propose" is very interesting. right adter those lyrics were sang, there was a some sort of mimicking the "Wedding march" song, I think. Very Clever.
4. Medium heavy slow drums with organ comping adds emotions too and it's so affecting, i wanna kick back, and just listen adn appreciate the music to the song.
5. This song confuses me. I don't know if I should listen to the orchestrations, guitar, etc or to listen tot he lyrics and how it was being sang with very good phrasing.
The guitars and strings on this one is excellent. Specially the guitar stuff on the part where he sings "I might propose" or something like that and then some very very subtle guitars mimic the sound of the usual "wedding march" ("Here Comes the Bride...", etc). Slow kinda medium heavy drum beat with the heavy organ comping is very affecting plus the unison of John's vocals and the guitar at the start of each stanza. the guitars are excellent. Very good voicings. "Sound of sirens" -part of the lyrics was clever. Possibly a spin-off of "Sound of Silence". Excellent job by John Mayer.
