Circle Lyrics - Slipknot

Review The Song (37)

Give me the dust of my father
Stand on the face of the ancients
Bare the secret flesh of time itself

Follow me (Follow me)
I've come so far, I'm behind again
Follow me (Follow me)
I wish so hard I'm there again
Follow me (Follow me)
Follow me (Follow me)

All that I wanted were things I had before
All that I needed I never needed more
All of my questions are answers to my sins
All of my endings are waiting to begin

I know the way but I falter
Can't be afraid of my patience
There's a sacred place Razel keeps safe

Follow me (Follow me)
I've seen so much I'm blind again
Follow me (Follow me)
I feel so bad I'm alive again
Follow me (Follow me)

All that I wanted were things I had before
All that I needed I never needed more
All of my questions are answers to my sins
All of my endings are waiting to begin

A Beautiful Thing | Reviewer: Morgan | 12/12/12

This song isn't about reincarnation or anything people twist it into. This song is about LIFE. Life is a circle... A cycle. "Give me the dust of my father, stand on the face of the ancients". Let our elders examples guide us... "So far I'm behind again". The cycle begins again.
This is a beautiful song. One of their best.

I think it basically means that the speaker tried to do everything in his power to become great, even if it was against morals or was a sin, and eventually ended up wasting his life, sinning, and not becoming any greater than he previously was.

It is NOT about Reincarnation. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/17/11

People are stupid, this is not about reincarnation. They're twisting it to their own meanings.

Give me the dust of my father (Let me learn, and become wise, like a father figure)
Stand on the face of the ancients (Walk the earth, experience and go through life.)
Bare the secret flesh of time itself (Understand that we are small and insignificant, but accept that we are still a part of the weave.)

Follow me (Follow me)
I've come so far, I'm behind again (Never feeling satisfied, or good enough for the world/himself)
Follow me (Follow me)
I wish so hard I'm there again (Want something bad enough that it puts you in a specific mental state)

All that I wanted were things I had before (He misses the past, and the way things were before the realization that his life has passed him by)
All that I needed I never needed more (Things he needed, like love and friends, he needs desperately now because of this realization.)
All of my questions are answers to my sins (The realization brings up many things he wonders about now, existentially. He understands things that bring about these questions because he fucked up and went through hell for it.)
All of my endings are waiting to begin (He realizes that life is passing him by and that periods of his life are ending right in front of him.)

I know the way but I falter (He knows what he's supposed, which is not the easy way, and is difficult.)
Can't be afraid of my patience (He's scared that opportunities will pass him by while he's holding out for something better.)
There's a sacred place Raz(i)el keeps safe (There is somewhere better, that is totally unattainable to us.)

Follow me (Follow me)
I've seen so much I'm blind again (He understands many things, but it hurts because things make sense in a cryptic way)
Follow me (Follow me)
I feel so bad I'm alive again (He's talking about that place when you're so depressed you lose yourself for a period of time and feel something totally indescribable, but can be described and being purely alive.)

This song is much deeper than just reincarnation.

Review and Meaning | Reviewer: DivineBlackMoonX | 10/28/09

After listen this some for the first time i was stunned. i feel in love with this song. I cried the first time i heard it. One of there best songs. The meaning of this song is Reincarnation (Starting over your life)"Give me the dust of my father" = This one was hard but he wants his fathers ashes."Stand on the face of the ancients" = Gods."Bare the secret flesh of time itself" = There is no Heaven or Hell, God or Satan."All that I wanted were things I had before" = He wants everything back to the way hes life once was."All that I needed I never needed more" = In his life he thought he needed more but realized he didn't."All of my questions are answers to my sins" = He means for each sin there is a punishment, for each punishment a sin goes away.
"All of my endings are waiting to begin" = Dieing and Starting over(Reincarnation)."I know the way but I falter" = He knows the way to peace and harmony but knows hes not allowed to go there."Can't be afraid of my patience" = Waiting for hes sins to go away so he may enter the secret land."There's a sacred place Razel keeps safe" = The Land of Salvation, Peace and Harmony. Thank You For Reading. - Divine Black Moon X

I have picked this song from Vol.3 to try and get my class to understand Slipknot is NOT the band that will kill you in your sleep and eat your babies. I think this track is about working out the differences between wanting and needing something and also to follow and achieve your dreams and goals.

My interpretation | Reviewer: Flaxys112 | 8/15/09

Well, i know this probably isn't how Corey wanted the lyrics to be interpreted when he wrote them.
To me some of the lyrcis is about being different, and the consequenses of being different. "All that i wanted, the things i had before" obviously means he wants things to be like they were once.

"All that i needed, i never needed more" is an extention to the previous line.

"All of my questions are answers to my sins" Means that questioning everything, instead of being an average person who just deals with it without thinking any further about it, simply brings problems. So that he questions everything is like a punishment for his sins.

Actually i didn't get any further in interpreting the lyrics, before i started writing this, so this is what you'll have to deal with so far. Enjoy! (:

good song, but listen | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/26/09

ok, ne of us can come up with our own meanings, and its better that way. if ur religious than make it religious. if not, it can be about killing shit. dont matter. i have a way of seeing the lyrics that goes with a conversation me and my band had a while back, friggin fits perfectly. it means what you want it to, same with any songs

kk, name austin and im a maggot for life, peace bitches!

meaning | Reviewer: Morgan | 2/3/09

When he says give me the dust of my fathers he mean his ancestors and a place razel keeps safe he mean gods land or heaven. And all i wanted were things i had before he means he lost some thing he loved anall of ou ending are wating to begin means he is dying

Well enjoy this sick song....

Stay (sic) maggots

i agree with the person that is obsessed with Marlon Brando lol jk. but i do agree. I do like slipknot, and its always exciting when a band does something it doesnt normally do, and still sound good. But i dont by any means think that just cause they have a couple of "soft songs" that they automatically become the best.

I love songs of this great band. Thanx for lyrics posted here. Reviews make me feel much better because sometimes I can not understand lyrics, even part of their meaning and your, guys, guessing and explanations help me a lot.

possible meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/10/08

i reckon its about dying or the end of someones life- razel means secret of god so a place razel keeps safe would be a graveyard and standing on the face of ancient could mean being buried. all of my endings waiting to begin has an obvious meaning, ending meaning the singers death

Idiotic | Reviewer: Zinke | 8/17/08

It's not give me the dust of my father, but give me the dust of my fatherS, fathers like in ancestors, not his dad.
Anyway, this song is a killer, kept listnin' this song over and over again, and yeah, i'm an maggot xD

Lyric | Reviewer: SIC | 6/19/08

Does anyone know what he means by the line "There's a sacred place, razel keeps safe"? I can find some meaning in all of the other lyrics, but I can't figure anything out for this particular line. Please help.

P.S. If anyone knows, you can post it here or just e-mail me.

This song | Reviewer: Billy | 2/1/08

This song is so meaningful for me.
I mean, i can't say that i interpret the song the same way as the band, but Circle manages to invoke so many feelings in me.
