Weird Al Yankovic Christmas At Ground Zero Lyrics

Last updated: 12/05/2013 05:53:42 AM

It's Christmas at ground zero
There's music in the air
The sleigh bells are ringing and the carolers are singing
While the air raid sirens blare

It's Christmas at ground zero
The button has been pressed
The radio just let us know
That this is not a test

Everywhere the atom bombs are dropping
It's the end of all humanity
No more time for last-minute shopping
It's time to face your final destiny

It's Christmas at ground zero
There's panic in the crowd
We can dodge debris while we trim the tree
Underneath the mushroom cloud

Ronald Reagan:
Well, the big day is only a few hours away now.
I'm sure you're all looking forward to it
as much as we are.

You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop
Or Jack Frost on your windowsill
But if someone's climbing down your chimney
You better load your gun and shoot to kill

It's Christmas at ground zero
And if the radiation level's okay
I'll go out with you and see all the new
Mutations on New Year's Day

It's Christmas at ground zero
Just seconds left to go
I'll duck and cover with my Yuletide lover
Underneath the mistletoe

It's Christmas at ground zero
Now the missiles are on their way
What a crazy fluke, we're gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday

What a crazy fluke, we're gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday!

Seriously... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/4/13

This song was written nearly 20 years before 9/ the person who was all bent out of shape about it, saying its tasteless etc needs stop being so uptight. Weird Al writes parodies, its just for FUN, and if that's not your cup of tea, don't go and read his lyrics or listen to his music. I myself am a huge fan. I have a sense of humor and am glad to see someone with his talent does too and not afraid to use it.

Too serious | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/10/09

Some people are taking Weird Al seriously, which is just plain dumb. He never intended anyone to ever take any of his songs serously. Is it offensive? Only if you're too sensitive. Besides, he's Jewish, what does he care about Christmas? Now, everyone offended by this song: GET A LIFE AND GET OVER IT.

Ironic | Reviewer: Tammy McPherson | 12/23/08

Hello, What is great about this song is the irony of living in a society predominantly made of Christians which is able to produce nuclear weapons. By what weird rationale do we justify this to ourselves? Yet, we take both things for granted much of the time.

I don't know if Weird Al intended us to think in those terms or not, but I do think it worth consideration.

This song is da bomb, man! Go Weird Al! He has a great sense of humor.

This song is awesome dudes. We all need to laugh at the seriousness in the wold sometimes or else we get too worked up. If everyone was worrying and stressing all the time -- well, where's the fun in that?

Pukah was talking about an episode of The Twilight Zone (a very good one), and I love the movie "Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb" it's old (from 1964) but a great movie!

A Reality Check | Reviewer: Pukah | 12/18/07

Born Jan 1948, this song (and original Video) resonates with me. The best way to describe it is survival by Humour. It brings to mind a TV episode of a Bank accoutant whose day is one long harrasment for trying to read (paper or books - wife and bosses). While he takes lunch to read in the vault the city is nuked. Coming out he makes his way through the debris to the steps of a huge library. As he eagerly makes his way up he trips and shatters his glasses (Like coke bottles!!) We'er left watching him stare, sitting on the steps in the midst of the books unable to read them.

More familiar and available would be the Movie "Dr. Strangelove". If you want more reality checkout "Fail-safe" or "On the Beach" - No humour there.

Wow! | Reviewer: mc | 12/7/07

This is a great song! The lyrics are fetching but the tune and video really won me over.

Or as someone I know would say (quote?) "holy last minute batman"!

I love it. I'm not a war-freak like most of my but I still think it's one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Horrible | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/21/05

This song sucks in every way shape and form, I dont know how anyone could ever even play it?

Hilarious | Reviewer: The Butler | 8/23/05

Only more hilarious than this song is the music must see it! It features alot of old clips including one of President Regan saying "There only a short while left now, and I'm sure you're as excited as we are."
