Chocolate Ice Cream Cone Lyrics - Rose Maddox

Review The Song (17)

My mommie said if I'd be good she'd send me to the store.
She said she'd bake some gingerbread if I would sweep the floor.
She said if I would make the bed and watch the telephone
that she would send me out to get a chocolate ice cream cone.

And so I did the things she said and then she baked some gingerbread.
And I went out just me alone and got my chocolate ice cream cone.

While coming back I stumped my toe upon a big old stone.
And need I tell you that I dropped my chocolate ice cream cone.
A little doggy came along and took and great big lick.
And so I hit that mean old dog with such a little stick.

And he bit me where I sit down
And then he chased me all over town.
And now I'm lost, can't find my home.
And all because of that chocolate ice cream cone.

Wow! It IS a real song! | Reviewer: Robyn Cannedy | 7/1/14

My mom sang this to ME too. I loved it so much, image in my mind of little me sitting on a tree stump, lost after the whole ordeal! Then deciding I better get up and find my way home! HaHa. My first (only) child was born in '91, mom named her. Mom Sang the song to her right away and all the time. I asked where she knew it from but she didn't recall...?? Mom died when my daughter was 4 months old. I sang the song every night to my daughter in mom's memory. It's awesome to find that so many others have deep connections to this song too! Thanks!

favorite childhood memory of my dad- | Reviewer: Andrea Bennett | 6/25/14

When I was a little girl, I use to beg my dad to sing this song (and play it on his guitar) and he would and then I would cry because I was worried about the little boy being lost. Then I would beg him to sing it again! haha! I dont know why, but I just loved hearing my Dad sing and play this song, even though it made me sad. He was a very talented musician, he could sing, play guitar and piano. Then he had a stroke 16 years ago, paralizing his left side of his body and right side of his face, and he lost that beautiful singing voice and the ability to play his beloved guitar. He still sings, though not as well, and He can still play the piano with his right hand, so I am thankful for that, it is still music to my ears! He is in a nursing home now, and plays the organ there sometimes. I recently video taped him singing this song again, although we couldnt remember all the words, so I was glad I found this website with the words to help us. Now I have a video of him singing it to me that will last me a lifetime. Thank you so much for this song, and a wonderful childhood memory!

KSMN RADIO STATION MASON CITY IOWA | Reviewer: Diana Moeller | 3/13/14

In 1962 I was 8 years old. My mother Leona was contracted and preformed live with her band on KSMN RADIO in Mason City Iowa on Saturdays. My sister and I each sang a song. I sang My Chocolate Ice Cream Cone. It was recorded by a band member's wife. I would love to have that recording. I don't know where to locate her. I have a vivid memory of singing the song live. I don't think KSMN recorded their live shows.

So glad I found all the words. One of my favorites from childhood. Daddy used to sing this to us and then to the grandkids. I love this. I sang it to my girls and now to my grandkids.

My dad sang this to us | Reviewer: Scott | 5/28/13

My dad used to sing this to us all the time. I sing it to my kids all the time. They act annoyed, but I know they will sing it to their children also. I always thought of the person in the song as being a little boy. It never entered my mind that it might be a little girl.

Good memories | Reviewer: Jaime | 5/19/13

My Mom used to sing me this song all the time when I was little. She died a few years ago and this song makes me remember all of our car trips and her singing this song. I used to cry at the end when the doggy bit the little girl and my mom would add extra versees where the doggy and the little girl lived happily ever after. I am so glad I found the lyrics to this song so I can sing it to my own little girl.

Love this song, happy memorie from my childhood, jsut a happy part of my life from childhood thr grandchild. Funstuff. Thank you Rose Maddox! Just by chance do you have the second verse? I have bits and pieces - the little kid finds his way back home with the help of a policeman. As I grew up I came to understand to respect and trust the police. To me this song had a message.

This song was sung to my grandmother when she was little, then to my father, and to me. I do plan on passing it down to my future children. It was just one of the best memories of my childhood..

OMG cant beleive i actually found these words on line. My grandpa used to sing this song to me and my brothers and all my cousins. Ican remember as a child taking road trips and my grandpa singing this song and the old lady that swallowed a fly and there once was a farmer. we have a video at a family reunion where all the kids in the whole Davidson family was sitting around my grandpa about 20+kids and he sang this song to all. Ive tried to sing this song to my kids and could not remember all the word to the song. This sight just really made my day . I love you Grandpa!!!!

Don't know why this song popped in my head tonight, but I was determined to Google it and there it was. Growing up in rural Missouri, my mom would sing this song. Now i am 58 and will share this with my grandchildren. What a blessing and fond memories this tune brings to me. I thought mom had made is up as she was a very creative person.

Getting ice cream for my niece and nephew at Thanksgiving. Started humming this tune about ice cream cone. I got frustrated that I couldn't remember the words. My dad used to play the guitar and sing this song, even with the little yodel at the end, to my three brothers and me years ago. Great memories! Thanks.
