For someone who's just 18, Chipmunk (AKA Jamaal Fyffe), has already achieved more than most will in a lifetime - in 2008 he received a MOBO award for Best Newcomer, an Urban Music Award for Best Newcomer, and a nomination for Best Rapper at the American BET Awards, not to mention having racked up millions of plays across his MySpace and Youtube channels - and all when he was just 17.
Even before that, at the age of 15, Chip started producing and self-releasing mixtapes, buying CDs in bulk and selling them to his mates at school. For his final mixtape, League Of My Own, he came together with Alwayz Recordings, together they then went on to release the much talked about single Chip Diddy Chip, reaching number 21 in the UK charts. He also put his MC talents to N-Dubz' Uncle B album and Ironik's top 5 single Tiny Dancer.
Back in July, Chipmunk hit the charts once more, when he released Diamond Rings through Jive/Columbia, gaining him a number 6 single. He then went onto finish his A-Levels, gaining himself a B, C and D (not bad for someone who took his exams in the middle of recording, touring and promoting!).
You can expect more from Chip later this year - he's about to set out on tour with Tinchy Stryder, he's nominated for an amazing four MOBOs at this year's awards (Best UK Act, Best Hip Hot Act, Best Video and Best song for Diamond Rings), plus he'll be releasing his next single Oopsy Daisy on the 5th Oct and his hotly anticapated debut album, I AM CHIPMUNK, will be hitting stores on 12th Oct. Make sure you pre-order now!
