Review The Song (10)Print the Lyrics
Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

You don't need direction, you know which way to go
And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You're the one who taught me you don't have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There'll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you'll change their heads when they see you smile

The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest
I know you will be honest if you can't always be kind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine,
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Review about Child Of Mine

Beautiful Child of Mine | Reviewer: Baabee | 10/23/2008

Almost three years ago, my daughter became pregnant with her fourth child. Her first was a miscarriage and her two boys were 11 and 13 at the time. They were not too happy about mom having a baby. Through tests my daughter found out that there may be something "wrong" with the baby and agreed to have an amniocentesis. Knowing what could eventually happen, we prayed and were overjoyed when the results were positive that her baby girl would be fine. On the way home one day, another daughter and I were listening to the car radio when Child of Mine played. Without a word to the other, we were both sobbing because no matter what, Desiray would be our child. And she definitely is! She has won the hearts of her brothers - she could get away with sin and they are sooo protective of her. They were present at her birth and were so overcome by her arrival that the attending nurse stopped what she was doing to give the 11-year old a hug. They wouldn't leave their sister's side. She is such a beautiful and smart two year old. And I thank God everyday for her as well as my other grandchildren.

I have been a Carole King fan for 40+ years, but only heard this song a few years ago. I was widowed 14 years ago, and our only child, a daughter, is getting married this year and I will give her away. We will play this song as I walk her down the aisle. I can't think of a song that expresses what I feel better than this. Waterproof mascara will be a must on the wedding day!!!

amazing | Reviewer: Steve | 11/18/2007

Although I am reasonably familiar with Carole King's work, I somehow missed this song until I picked up "The Ode Years". It began playing on my car stereo, and it brought me to tears. It is exactly what I wanted to say to my oldest child, with whom I've had a tempestuous relationship over the years. It's amazing how someone else's words can really express what's in my heart!

Proud Army Mom | Reviewer: Mama K | 5/21/2007

This song makes me think of all my children, but it has a special meaning when it comes to my oldest son Daniel. Right now Daniel is in Iraq serving our country & I'm missing him very much! He met a wonderful girl in the Army & they recently got married (secretly!) & I just recently found out, but I know she makes him very happy & I know marring her before he left for Iraq makes him happy, so even though I was devestated that I wasn't there for my first-born son's wedding- just knowing he's happy makes it all better. I'm so incredibly proud of the man Daniel has become, even though it hasn't always been easy- if not downright hard! I love you, Daniel.

This song reminds me of all my children, but I'm especially thinking of my oldest son, Daniel who's in Iraq serving our country. I know it has been hard for him, but he always manages to do great! He recently, secretly got married to his wonderful new wife, Toni- who is also in the Army. They really seem to complete each other. I was devestated that I was not there for my first-born son's wedding, but knowing how happy this makes him seems to make it all worth it. I'm so incredibly proud of the fine young man Daniel has become. I love you, Daniel.

Child Of Mine | Reviewer: Wendellyn Plummer | 5/13/2007

Tonight was the first time I heard this song. What a wonderful, wonderful song. As I was driving this song came over the radio as a dedication to a ladies daughter's, this being Mother's Day. As I sat listening, I thought of my own living daughter studying to become a Doctor and my deceased daughter, who would be 23 this November. Our love for our children never stops no matter where they are or what they are doing. I have printed these lyrics so I can give them to my daughter to let her know just how much I love her each day and that I am never far away. I was so blessed with two beautiful daughters and I know I was to hear this song tonight. My deceased daughter was a light beyond lights. Both of my girls were well behaved and knew their dreams would come true. My youngest, is walking with God, her best friend, and yes, to my sweet darling, I am so glad that you are a child of mine. Thank you Carole King for what my heart wants to say each day.

a beautiful memorial | Reviewer: j flaherty | 2/13/2007

A while ago, a neighbor passed away from cancer. She was a beautiful person, wife, and mother of two little boys and she was in her early 30's. She knew she was dying and she had the wherewithall to set up pretty much her own memorial service, so her family wouldn't have to perform that painful task. Friends and family all said their lovely pieces that they had created with so much dignity , love, and sweetness. After it was all said, my neighbor had arranged with the pastor to play this song ,"Child of Mine",through the church speaker system, but instead of Carol King singing and playing it, it was my neighbor herself with her guitar in her own marvelous voice. Her two little boys were in the front pew and they got to hear their mommy do it for them once more. It was incredibly beautiful and unbearable touching for all of us in the church, and the boys seemed to enjoy it with their little faces genuinely smiling. They were only about 4 and 5 at the time, and it must've been a very different experience for them at that age than it was for the rest of us. It was wonderful that there was such a perfect song for her to give to her children. I just wanted to tell you about this tender memory and how special this song has become for me. "Thank You" to Carole King--you, too, are remarkable, needless to say .

Rockin' My Baby | Reviewer: Queenie | 1/3/2006

Twenty-three years ago I use to sing this beautiful song to my son Nicky as I rocked him to sleep. Now, I sing it to his 20-month old hapa haole son, Hako'i. Culture and time make no difference when something comes along that is true. These lovely sentiments are eternal.

Although this "boomer" gets forgetful at times, this song is one that I will always leave space for in my mind as I get older!
