Chasing Cars Lyrics - Snow Patrol

Review The Song (72)

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Love the lyrics | Reviewer: Rainy | 12/4/12

I feel the song meant to push the world away and just be. My husband died last year of cancer and during his sickness he asked me to just lie next to him. He was so thin and tired and just want me to lie next to him and hold him. when I hear this song it reminds me of him.

For Amy | Reviewer: Daniel | 3/6/12

A year ago I met a wonderful woman called Amy. We are both in relationships and events recently led us to share what we thought about each other. Since then our moments have been amazing and so so tender. We seem to have found someone who can touch the deepest part of our soul and we love each other... Our dream is to lie in the countryside and just watch the clouds go by, knowing the other is there next to us... We don't need anything or anyone to know how we feel. In the words of the song we dont know how or why things are the way they are but we know that for us they will never change. Thank you Amy for giving me a glimpse of your soul and letting me hold you... I truly love you...

amazing | Reviewer: ellie | 7/3/11

the first time i listened to this, my eyes welled up and i nearly started crying for no apparent reason. then i realized that although the song has no sense in its lyrics but it has a hidden meaning.

I need your grace | Reviewer: shideh panahi | 1/8/11

WE ARE NOT ENOUGH
"those three words"THEY ARE NOT ENOUGh,are basic rules of living together with our love without any problem.
when i hear this song first time,it is takes my breath away and i feel strong power of grace, kindness, honesty and happiness in my own....
finally.either any body is not enough but:
All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see.
I love you,ali...
I never want to lose you again

Never too old to understand | Reviewer: Rosemary LeBlanc | 7/25/10

I am an old woman 56 soon, married 20 years, first and only time, so you do the math and see it was not an easy trip. I have a cynical point of presentation which pooh poohed the over use of "those three words" THEY ARE NOT ENOUGH. What is in front of them, is conjecture, what came before, unchangable for good or bad. I had gotten all wrapped up in the day to day struggle, the routines, the bills, the living life on life's terms which at times is messy, challenging, boring, or seemingly just too hard to do. I have crafted words for a lifetime, but have never been able to define where I stand, and why I am standing. This group of young men, and this glorious song, have me sobbing on my lap top. The gratitude of being loved, the constant hope of the next minute, and finally understanding that life and love are not to be mastered, but to be savored, never taken for granted. I love you David, thank you."If I lay here, If I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world." I grew up with Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne, both cerebral music makers... I love the music from the last 20 years; the musicians have taken it out of the head, and sing it from the heart and gut.

Breathtaking | Reviewer: Ibukun | 6/20/10

This song is amazing. Couldn't stop listening to it. 'Would you lie with me & just forget the world?' this question makes me wanna cry. I just wish "the love" we just profess so easily does mean what it really is to us cos then, they'll be enough. "Seun, if i lay here, if i just lay here, would u lie with me & just forget the world?"

Every now and then.......... | Reviewer: Emma | 3/26/10

Every now and then a song comes along that takes your breath away, and leaves you lost for words. I'll admit that i liked snow patrol before "chasing cars" came out, but this was the song that made me wake up and actually really listen to their songs. "chasing cars" is an amazing song, and i have a lot of special memories attached to it, So much so, that i'm getting a tattoo tomorrow of the lines "forget what were told, before we get too old, show me a agarden thats bursting into life"
This song gives me goosebumps every time i hear it, and it takes a special song to do that now a days!

What do the words mean? | Reviewer: Jay | 3/19/10

GREAT SONG... Anyway, a few questions...are we sure it's "chasing cars around our heads" and are we sure it is "show me a garden that's bursting into life?" It changes meanings. This song SEEMS to really be about a man and a woman, but if it is chasing cars around our house, that reminds me of dogs. SOmetimes songs are not about what or who you think. The 1970's hit song "Shannon" was about a dog. Also, I'd like it if it were about a man and woman and it said "show me your garden that's bursting into life" because it would mean a baby, wouldn't it? Remember when Robert Plant sang "can I make your garden grow" in a song? I hope you people are old enough to remember these songs I talking about or would google them. Any word changes?

OK I get it | Reviewer: Jay | 3/19/10

P.S. Sorry about the questions, I just read all the posts that explain the chasing cars thing and love song. Guess it is a way to chide his dad and that memory and say he was a dog who could catch the "car" and did know what to do with her! But I still wonder about the garden..it's a great image for pregnancy. The Led Zep song, now that I think about it, which said "can I make your garden grow," was "Houses of the Holy." BUT "Chasing cars" is haunting and beautiful because of the steady and heightening sound of the music, it actually has like a climb and climax. Very clerver, and very beautiful, like the lyrics.

Annoyed | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/14/10

If you're going to write a review, then actually write a goddamn review, no-one cares that you think about your BF everytime you hear this song and frankly it annoys me

On a lighter note, amazing song 5*

Every time i listen to this song i think of you, only you. i wish you never moved. We had plans for us, even though we were only 14 at the time, but honestly i never want to lose you again. this song says it all. i love you.

Those three words | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/27/09

This Song doesnt remind me of anyone or anything.
But it's just so true, every word and every line
Those three words
are said too much
they're not enough

Nowadays an "I love you" is easily thrown, without being appreciating the meaning. I guess those three words are sometimes really not enough.
If a boy I'm in love with would sing this song for me...I would just melt away :-D
