Cats In The Cradle Lyrics

Review The Song (12)Print the Lyrics
My child arrived just the other day
Came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
He was talkin' 'fore I knew it
And as he grew he said,
I'm gonna be like you, Dad,
You know I'm gonna be like you.

Chorus
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
When you comin' home?'
'Son, I don't know when, but we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then.'

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, 'Thanks for the ball, Dad. Come on, let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?'
I said, 'Not today. I got a lot to do.'
He said, 'That's okay.'
And then he walked away but the smile never dimmed and he said,
'You know, I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him.'

Chorus

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man, I just had to say,
'I'm proud of you. Could you sit for a while?'
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
'What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?'

Chorus

I've long since retired, my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, 'I'd like to see you, if you don't mind.'
He said, 'I'd love to, Dad, if I could find the time.
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu,
But it's sure nice talkin' to you, Dad.
It's been sure nice talkin' to you.'
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

Chorus

GN'R?? | Reviewer: DK | 8/9/2008

I agree with the majority who have posted that this has never been done by Guns N' Roses, as a big fan I have never come across it. So rather than giving us a load of crap saying they did record or cover it, just name the source. I would be happy to be proved wrong but for Slash's sake stop tellin me that they did it and tell me where, when and how I can get a copy for my collection. Otherwise wind ya necks in!!!

ugly kid joe didnt write it | Reviewer: josh | 11/24/2007

It was written by harry chaplin as far as gnr singing it I don't believe they did but im not familiar with everyone of their songs so i may be mistaken.

Never happened... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/26/2007

From a woman who was a girl in the 80's and major GNR fan... They never did it. Not Cats In The Cradle and not Every Rose Has It's Thorn. Axl was never in Poison either. He hung with the lead singer, but he was never in that band. I have heard the version of Cats In The Cradle released on Limewire and it's definately Ugly Kid. You gotta listen for Slash making his guitar sing. It's just not there. Neither is Axl's wail.

Ugly kid Joe did not write this song | Reviewer: whipper | 9/21/2007

This song Cats in the Cradle was written by Harry Chapin's wife in 1974 and he revamped it and recorded it in 1974. Ugly kid joe did a cover of it. GNR never played this tune.

WTF? | Reviewer: Robert | 7/11/2007

Guns N Roses NEVER did this song! There have been alot of covers of the original song by Harry Chapin (Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs, Finn Kalvik, Ugly Kid Joe, Mandy Patinkin & More) but Guns N Roses have NEVER done it! Some idiot labeled the song as Guns N Roses on Limewire (a P2P file sharing program) and since then idiots have just posted it as Guns N Roses.... your obviously NOt a GNR fan if you downloaded this and think its Axl Rose singing it. Also, Jakc black cause a bit of havoc stating that this was also done by Cat Stevens... This is another bullshit statement which Jack Black admited he wronged everybody. The majority of the versions around that you hear now days is done by Ugly Kid Joe on the album America's Least Wanted.

cover | Reviewer: Joe | 7/7/2007

they did cover it, guns n' roses did sing it and it was the best version of it.

They never played this song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/19/2007

Ugly Kid Joe sang it...but it was written by Harry Chapin about 20 years prior to UKJ forming.
