Carrickfergus Lyrics - Charlotte Church

Review The Song (5)

I wish I was in Carrickfergus
Where the castle looks out to sea.
I would swim over the deepest ocean
For my love to be with me.
But the sea is wide and I can not swim over
Nor have I the wings to fly
I wish I had a handsome boatman,
To ferry me over, my love and I.

I wish I was in the land of Eire,
Where the mountains reach the sea.
Where flowers blossom as I do remember.
Where my true love came to me.
But the sea is wide and I can not swim over.
Nor have I the wings to fly.
I wish I was in Carrickfergus.
To be together my love and I.

This song has real meaning and brings back special memories each time i hear it. As i am from Carrickfergus n met my partner from England,as we engaged in a long distance relationship he would sing this song to me everytime we spoke. Now I have moved across the sea to be with him it bring me warm memories of home. We plan to get married in that castle in 2010.

Truly enchanting | Reviewer: Brian Davilla | 10/27/2006

This is probably the best song on Charlotte's "Enchantment" CD. It's winsome beauty is captivating and is difficult to forget as your tempted to play it repeatedly as I often do.

Haunting melody | Reviewer: Giselle W. of Texas | 5/8/2006

The first time I heard Carickfergus, I thought I heard the most hauntingly beautiful song ever. I've heard it many times over since then and I still feel the same. Buy the CD and see for yourself. I've never really heard Charlotte Church before that, but now I'm a fan and have "Enchantment" and "Prelude", two of her best CD's. I listen to them on my way to the hospital where I am a physician.

Sublime | Reviewer: Irene | 6/25/2005

My aunt chose Carrickfergus for her funeral mass as her coffin was being carried out of the church by "the young men". I always loved the song but this was it at its most poignant. Heartbreakingly beautiful. Irene
