James Taylor Carolina In My Mind Lyrics

Last updated: 02/07/2014 07:34:41 PM

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Karen she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

There ain't no doubt in no one's mind
That love's the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

With a holy host of others standing 'round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and goin' to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Goin' to Carolina in my mind
And I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Goin' to Carolina in my mind

(I'm goin')
(Say nice things about me 'cause I'm goin' southbound)
(Carry on with out me 'cause I'm goin')

Carolina lullaby | Reviewer: Molly D. | 2/7/14

When our oldest son was a baby my husband would sing Goin' to Carolina at bedtime. As Tyler got older, he would say "Sing me the Carolina Song!" This is a very special song and to this day brings back wonderful memories.

Carolina my haven in the ups and downs | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/3/14

This song has always been very meaningful for me from a different perspective. I hate to use the word because I hate to label myself but I deal w the progressive disorder of bipolar. However. I have always hid it. But this song allows me to get in touch with my emotions regarding the way I have to manage the ups and downs of my life. My name is Karen and the song feels personal when James talks about how Karen sees the silver moon and watch her see the morning come. I wish people could know the great joy I feel in life. On the other hand I can be on the dark side of the moon for days. But there is always a safe place inside my mind I can go no matter if I am up or down. That is my Carolina. -Bipolar is just a label== I am so much more, I am an intelligent caring professional mom grandmother wife nurse. Thank you JT for writing this song it makes me feel special

Love ya', James! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/10/13

I have been a fan of James Taylor since my early teens. I have seen him in concert 5 times! Each concert was wonderful. Wish I could have seen James and Carol King together! I am a native of NORTH Carolina and a graudate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There is no greater place in the world to me than this beautiful state and every time I hear this song I am thankful that I'm a Tarheel born and bred and that I have lived in NC all of my life. Thanks, James, for such a fabulous, timeless, meaningful piece of music!!

Signs that might be omens... | Reviewer: Doug | 8/30/13

I heard of a live version of this song, and JT started the song off by saying "I miss my house, and I miss my dad, and I miss my dog..." My heart broke inside me. For me, this song has always been about longing, and the journey around that long circle that leads back Home...

Got me through tough times... | Reviewer: John | 7/11/13

This song is one of my all time favorites! I am an adopted son of North Carolinian. This song got me through some tough times in my life when I was away from my wife and family in North Carolina......

Karen and I "Are in Myrtle Beach-In our Minds"-RIP | Reviewer: Carla | 4/25/13

This song always takes me to Myrtle Beach,SC in the late 60's . Karen and I were college age and spent the summers in MB working. She was killed in a car wreck after the last summer there. I certainly go there "In my mind" every time I listen to this beautiful song!

A truly touching song | Reviewer: Grayson | 4/15/13

I am a native of NC and have lived there for about 10 years before I had moved away. This song unlike a good many has such sincerity and really touched me. I miss Carolina right now.

Hauntingly beautiful | Reviewer: Mischief | 1/24/13

This hauntingly beautiful song calls to me, I think in my past life I lived and loved in North Carolina, I know my ancestors lived there so it must be in my blood. All I can say is, thank you James Taylor.

A peaceful song | Reviewer: Jacob | 11/22/12

This song has outstanding lyrics that is so
touching. The songs meaning is that James
loves Carolina and that is where his peace
of mind is. This song is so soothing. It is like a
Lulibey. To think that he is just almost repeating
himself would not be correct, there is alot of words with
true meaning. I for one very much enjoy this country song
and I hope you do to!

Just on my mind | Reviewer: Karen | 10/7/12

My husband has looked at me in times of stress and has asked me where I am in my head. I simply say ... I'm in "Carolina in my mind". This song represents a place I put myself in for peace. "geese in flight" is movement to a calmer atmosphere. The sun, the moon are Divine gifts, while "holy host of others standing round me are my mom, dad and all loved ones who have passed still guiding and lifting me. Very deep and meaningful song. My name "Karen", ironically just seems to personalize this song even more. Thank you James..for this song which has brought peace to me so many, many times.

Missing the Carolina's | Reviewer: Lori Anne Flanigan | 9/24/12

I can feel the movements of the words anyone missing were they grew up gets it! Moving away and just wishing you were home again! I close my eyes listening to the song and I feel as if I Can be where I grew up in Carolina!

Never get tired of listening | Reviewer: renai | 8/8/12

I moved to the West for graduate school, and because of certain circumstances (my own doing), I am obliged to stay out here. The West is "the dark side of the moon" as far as the style and substance of its people are concerned. I miss old Carolina with all its peculiar nuances, traditions, grace and class. The song provides a great escape for several minutes.

artistic masterpice personified | Reviewer: collins fasa jarikre | 7/19/12

goin to Carolina in my mind as stated above, is an artistic masterpiece personified. James, thanks a lot for this wonderful song because each time I listen to this song I really get emotional and encouraged. To me, Carolina is being succeessful in my legal career, in life and extending a helping hand to the needy in the society. In my mind, I'm there already.

Caroline in my mind | Reviewer: Maksudul Haq Rumi | 4/17/12

This song sings of success and victory as finally being able to go to the place one always called home.

This song relates to me as finally sailing for the place of my desire, where first dreams were born, fond memories created.

When I moved away from my childhood place to attend University, I more than often missed the sun rise, blue sky and the setting sun and persons I shared my memories with-- I always wanted to go back and be there.

My Mom, Carolina | Reviewer: Kathie | 11/14/11

When my mom passed in February of 2004, this became the official song to remember my mom. She was such a wonderful person. She was our sunshine and moonshine, the light of our lives...Love and Miss you Mommy
