Cape Canaveral Lyrics - American Music Club

Review The Song (1)

I should trade my heart in for a watch
'Cause all I do is watch the numbers slip away
My lips silently repeat the countdown
'Cause it's too hard to say

I always knew that you would leave

Do you know where the hell we are
All the birds are too quiet in the trees
Frightened by the sweet things we say to each other
Frightened by the things we make them see

I always knew that you would leave

Like hunger that you always have to feed
Like when Don Rickles' spotlight goes blue
The countdown tells me I'm better off alone
And so empty without you

I always knew that you would leave

I've played this album and song so many times, I can't even remember. It has always reminded me that the seeds of the end of a relationship are always at the beginning, and that relationships will never give us what we truly want.
You can hear the bruised heart in Mark Eitzel's vocals and you know it's completely authentic. There's a kind of paralysis in the rhythm that slowly rolls on, with synths washing in and out of it. I've just come out of another relationship and, like all the others, the words ring true yet again. A masterpiece in songwriting which stretches throughout the entire album.
