Well here's Canibus Central's version of how Canibus got to
where he is now. Half of y'all won't read this shit coz you
already know it, but for you beginners, read this. It's the
most accurate and extensive Canibus Bio on the www that I
know of. Every site has a Canibus bio, so I thought Canibus
Central should have one too, so here it is.
Canibus. Where do you start? He is, in my opinion, the most
gifted emcee in the field of battling that I have ever
heard. His very large vocabulary and sharp wit coupled with
his raw voice and incredible talent to rhyme words together
make him a pure battling machine. Any emcee I know of would
fear battling Canibus. Just ask LL Cool J. hahaha!
But that's not to say Canibus begins and ends with
battling. Canibus is innovative, More...
i dunno much about rap or hip hop man. but i do love canibus. but the reason why i respond is;
you said "ill keep it underground"
you act as if people try to stay underground...when thats not the case. the reason for being called underground is because its publically unknown, aergo they're not that big yet, not because they try to be.

From day one, I said Canibus roasted LL. I'm not hating on LL because I used to be an LL fan before a lot of people, at the same time, he became corny albums ago. I'm still a Major Canibus fan. However, I do agree that he needs better productions with certain songs. I guaranteed u if he would've had other producers like DJ Premier, Havoc & so on, he would've went Platinum instead of Gold. I haven't heard anybody that rhyme like him not even Feminem, oops I man Eminem. I went out and brought 2000 bc & Mic Club, fuck these non-rappin' ass rappers that's out today. If u ask me, I think Lil Wayne is garbage towards a real lyricist.

------ About the song Channel Zero performed by Canibus
this hip hop artist is by for the most sophisticated lyrisist i've heard. his word dexterity allows him to vividly deliver a mental image of the content he's rhyming about. his ability to also give his opinion and or personal views with some minor references on the topic make it that more interesting. even though this is a song over a decade old, it STILL BLOWS ME AWAY. how he wrote this is simplely a wounder to me, man this guy has a gift to interpret what he takes in and deliver it in rhyme almost flawlessly, i would love to meet him and drop a couple flows with him.

Alot of you sound like you dont know real hip hop. Yes I enjoy Canibus like some of you, but you all seem to comercial for me. You need to did deep into underground hip hop and you will find a true MCEE. For me to give examples would be foolish. Its people like most of you that ruin hip hop. So i will keep underground shit the way they like,on the underground. Canibus is cool I like the bars, but educate yourself, PLEASE

Canibus isn't like Nas at all. His diction actually has deeper meaning and 'bus says it right here in this song:
"Not just spittin a poem there's much more involved
there's much more pieces of the puzzle for you to solve"

------ About the song Poet Laureate II performed by Canibus
I have been a fan since his Clue freestyle over the Brickhouse beat. I have Bought all of his albums (some twice and three times). He truly is the greatest in my eyes as a lyricist, maybe not an mc working the crowd. He no longer fits in to hip hop on a commercial level, but that is what makes him great. They need to teach a class on his lyrics in college. One thing you must say, he never sold out like Em did with some corny I'mn the real shady crap, he always brings it raw, always!
If you don't appreciate the master-bus, I thank you a thousand times over, because he wouldn't be the Canibus we all know and love and what hip-hop needs him to be, the dark savior. He helped me through many a hard time with his music and heart, just plain inspiring some of the verses he has laid out, just plain raw. " took an oath to rip everything I get on..."
Some of the stuff he drops in this song is hollow rhetoric, and sure, a lot of the references are just showing off how well read 'Bus is, but don't we all do that? Whenever we say "Oh, I read this book by Derrida" or whatever, we are consciously or subconsciously hoping people heap accolades on us for being so worldly and informed.
I like this song, there are a few bits that suck and he should have just kept the intelligentsia approach and not mentioned luxury cars and so forth. The beats are fucking ridiculously good, but the samples at the start and end are unnecessary.
All in all, this song is well above your average hip-hop jam and a lot of the references will be straight over listeners' heads, but Canibus knows his shit.

I cant uderstand how some of you can listen to this song and not hear genius in lyrics and rythym. Canibus is college educated and military trained. his intelligence and worldliness shouldnt even be questioned. And as far as him not being deep... he never claimed to be a philosopher. he is just what the song, poet laureate, claims...a poet. he never compared himself to david hume or thomas kinkade, he just set himself apart from every other rapper in the world and displayed his thirst for knowledge. and as far as him just being another 'cocky rapper': "maybe i am self-absorbed, but thats the effect, to find the cause you should ask my A&R." dont be a HAAAAATTTTEEEERRRRRRRR
People on here comparing this lyrical masterpiece to Lil' Wayne are seriously confused. Yes, there is a lot of braggadoccio in this song, but come on people, that is Hip Hop...the song is not just him "rapping about how great he is"...but also talks about the hardships of trying to be an MC and how hard he worked, particularly once the beat switches he gets into a more reflective tone and then proceeds to chastise the current state of Hip Hop, a form of backpacking not braggadoccio. The title of the song implies that he is rapping about how great he is, but the song is just as much about reflecting on the lack of intellectualism in Hip Hop culture "No one gives a fuck anymore, no one goes to the bookstore" and a general call to elevate.

I call bullshit on the detractors. You're both (if not the same person) probably arrogant pseudo-intellectuals whose inadequate intelligence doesn't provide you the resources to extract depth from the song - or anything else for that matter.
You're the kind of nitwits who would look at this line: "To touch is to be touched" [1], spaz out because you can't grasp the Philosophic OVERTONES, and deride others for marveling in others' comprehension [2], as well as debasing the content of the work, ignorantly.
Canibus skillfully plays the role of an Apologist. Every verse builds up to very poignant propositions that are poetically explicated in a thorough manner and ultimately draw to an obvious, but nevertheless well defended and definite conclusion.
In short: shut the fuck up; you honestly have no clue what you're talking about.

------ About the song Poet Laureate II performed by Canibus
It annoys me that people can't respect a rapper without blowing it out of proportions. The metaphors don't actually add anything, they're just a chance to show off his ability to string together esoteric references. They don't clarify anything or add anything. Canibus is a lot like Nas. It's never as deep as it sounds. Unlike seemingly everyone that posted, I actually know what he's talking about, and I can tell you it doesn't mean that much.
And BTW, Canibus recorded the lyrics before the beat existed. You can thank Stoupe (the producer) for how well they go together.
