Candlebox Biography

Review The Artist (6)

Candlebox is a Seattle-based band that formed in December 1991, with bassist Bardi Martin, guitarist Peter Klett, vocalist/guitarist Kevin Martin (not related to Bardi), and drummer Scott Mercado. They took their name from a line of the Midnight Oil song, "Tin Legs and Tin Mines." The line was "boxed in like candles." In 1992, they recorded their first demo, which they raised money for by selling most of their stuff.

They went on to perform private shows for record labels and in 1993, they released their first cd, cleverly titled "Candlebox," on Maverick Records. They spent the next two years touring almost nonstop. In 1995, they released their second cd, Lucy. In 1997, Scott left the band. He was replaced by former Pearl Jam drummer, Dave Krusen. The third cd, Happy Pills, was released on July 21st, 1998. Dave and Bardi left the band in early 1999. Dave left to be with his family, Bardi left to complete his history degree. Dave is temporarily being replaced by Shannon Larkin (formerly of Ugly Kid Joe) and Bardi was replaced by Rob Redick.

It's no accident this band has withstood the test of time even with the changes in the line up.
Kevin Martin has a voice that captivates, motivates and expresses more than words can explain.
I love all of their albums! COME BACK TO CALIFORNIA!
with respect and love,

To know them is to love them | Reviewer: Shell (INDY) | 7/5/07

I have had the opportunity to see the band when they first started out on tour in 1993 and in 2006 got to go to 4 shows 1 in Boston at the Avalon. The other 2 in Indy and 1 in St. Louis. The energy the band has together is amazing. 2007 here they grace us again. I had the honor to be invited on the bus to chat. What an amazing band. Heard the new songs and can't wait for the album to "blossom". Don't miss out if they are in your town you gotta check them out you won't be disappointed. Greetings and Salutations.
Peace 2 all

THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!! | Reviewer: Dani | 4/13/05

I own Candlebox's album and i think that it is one of the best ones that I have heard(so far). Their song "MAYBE" kinda touched me inside. The songs on this album really mean a lot to me and I can't imagine them if they decided not to write their songs. Thanks for letting me submit this. TTFN--- Dani:)
