But Tonight We Dance Lyrics - Rise Against
Review The Song (16)
Breathe deep and easy, swallow this pride.
Stare at my shaking hands through bone-dry, blood-shot eyes.
Clock strip the hours, I count the miles.
Will you be there waiting, awake until sunrise?
I have traveled in darkness, for what seems like days,
I crawled from the sink-holes, collapsed under this weight.
I know not your sorrow, but I know mine,
So say you'll stay and dance with me tonight?
In the glow of twilight, our world is finally calm.
I felt it complete me, when the stars give way to dawn.
A language universal, but I speak not its tongue.
Is this a night that spans forever, or a dawn that never comes?
I have traveled in darkness, for what seems like days,
I crawled from the sink-holes, collapsed under this weight.
I know not your sorrow, but I know mine,
So say you'll stay and dance with me tonight?
Tomorrow we might wake in servitude and silence
I will give you everything if only you would have me
Tomorrow we will sweat and toil,
Our hands will quiver, caked with soil,
Tomorrow we'll give it one last chance,
But tonight we dance,
But tonight we dance!
And for this, I travel in darkness, for what seems like days,
I crawled from the sink-holes, collapsed under this weight.
I know not your sorrow, but I know mine,
Just say you'll stay and dance with me tonight.

Rise against is awesome. Been my favorite band for awhile. Some songs they play, yes very political, but its only to show whats going on in our country, or even our world. The politic side of Rise Against is for a good cause. They lso have many different sides to them. Life, Politics, Relationships, or even just getting up, and throwing your fist in the air and starting something!
Phantastic! | Reviewer: Ganaelin | 11/17/10
This song is too cool for Fs I am a HUGE rise against fan. Once I heard them, I was addicted. Everyone of their songs will find it's way into your heart and tell you that there is some hope for you. There is always something to live for and this song emphasizes that in too many ways to explain so thank you guys for masterpiecing every single song :)
What it means to me | Reviewer: sharpcasper | 3/22/10
The meaning of this song is not just carpe diem, it is much more angelic than that.
Throughout the whole song he is talking about the work he goes through he is describing the pain and anguish he goes trough, "but tonight we dance". So yes it would seem like a seize the moment type song until the very end.
"And for this I will travel in darkness
For what seems like days.
I crawled from the sinkholes,
Collapsed under this weight.
I know not your sorrow,
But I know mine.
So say you'll stay
And dance with me tonight."
He is describing his own personal anguish and just wants to dance, "and for this i travel in darkness" "and for this... i crawled from the sinkholes", "and for this... i collapsed under this weight" so for this one thing, this one dance just tonight he is willing to go through this hell of his. At the end he is pleading with this person to "say you'll stay And dance with me tonight."
I think this is about finding that one thing that makes your own personal troubles worth living, your one "dance."
Major Rise Against fan... | Reviewer: The Fat Man | 2/12/10
In my very unprofessional opnion I believe this song is about the underground railroad and about how the African American slaves of the south would basically run from the south of the United States of America up north into Canada. The phraise "A language universal, but I speak not its tongue." I beileve really proves this because back then the slaves wern't given any formal education so they might not fully understand English.
Either way this song is about how you should never give up no matter how hopeless things seam.

This song reminds me of a supernatural episode. and im suuuuuuuree they didnt write it about supernatural, but in supernatural the boys have one last night on earth before they go and try and kill the devil, which is pretty much a suicide attempt.
and so on your last day on earth you just want to simply enjoy yourself. aka: by dancing :)
freakin hard lard bard cards this song is amazing | Reviewer: chris | 10/12/09
if Rise Against DOESNT make it into the Rock n' Roll hall of fame, im ressurecting whoever used to run the HOF and shoving my keyboard down their throat and gonna hit the clt+alt+del button until they're forever disappeared into the space tmie continuim. It can be done. I saw it on CSI.
the night will end!! | Reviewer: Tim Skondin | 10/11/09
This song has political meanings, and meanings for life, its applies where you need it to. That is what is great about RISE. Really their songs are maid to show you insight, give you another perspective. They don't play this music to be worshiped they play it to lead and inspire.
More need to follow everyone.
Always love this song! | Reviewer: Erick | 7/13/09
Rise against is awesome!! The only thing I dont really enjoy about rise against is what they belive meaning there politics and ect. What they think of.
