Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow Lyrics - Natalie Merchant
Review The Song (1)
Well, my heart is sad
And I am lonesome
For the only one I love
When shall we meet?
Oh no never
Till we meet in heaven above
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me
Well, he told me that
He dearly loved me
Oh how could it be untrue?
Until the angels softly whispered,
"he will prove untrue to you"
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me
Well, tomorrow was to be
Our wedding day
But oh my god
Where can he be?
He's out a courting with another
And no longer cares for me
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me
And I am lonesome
For the only one I love
When shall we meet?
Oh no never
Till we meet in heaven above
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me
Well, he told me that
He dearly loved me
Oh how could it be untrue?
Until the angels softly whispered,
"he will prove untrue to you"
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me
Well, tomorrow was to be
Our wedding day
But oh my god
Where can he be?
He's out a courting with another
And no longer cares for me
So bury me underneath the willow
Under the weeping willow tree
So that he may know
Where I am sleeping
And perhaps he'll weep for me

The Weeping Willow Tree | Reviewer: Jeanne Beers | 4/26/2007
These are some of the lyrics I learned from my old 78 records on our wind up victrola. "My love is all across the ocean and I'm sitting here alone. Me fairly thinks I hear a whisper 'yes my love I'll soon be home.' So bury me beneath the willow, under the weeping and willow tree and when he knows that I am sleeping, then perhaps he'll weep for me."
It is all the same tune but this was an old original Carter Family song but I got another copy of theirs and it isn't quite the same words. Was it later updated and re-recorded?
