Burt Bacharach is simply one of the most accomplished
composers of the 20th Century. In the 1960s and '70s,
Bacharach was a dominant figure in popular music, writing
an amazing 52 Top 40 hits. In their musical sophistication,
Bacharach compositions stood apart from much of the simpler
pop music of the era. Bacharach songs typically boasted
memorable melodies, unconventional time signatures and
striking chord changes. Lyricist Hal David, Bacharach's
primary collaborator, provided Bacharach's music with Tin
Pan Alley craft and melodrama. David's unsentimental,
bittersweet lyrics often contrasted with Bacharach's
soaring melodies. While Bacharach's name in the 1970s
became synonymous with elevator music, due in large part to

------ About the song Wives and Lovers performed by Burt Bacharach
Pieces of this song were coursing through my head this morning, memories of my mother playing the "hi-fi" during my youth. A few seconds and Google found me the "who did it" (and the rest of the lyrics).
My, how times - or at least attitudes we present - have changed. What a horrible, chauvinistic song. (And, for the record, I'm a straight male.)

------ About the song Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) performed by Burt Bacharach
This is a great some and certainly worthy of the 1981 academy award for best song. I heard or read somewhere during the writing of the lyrics, that one of the composers was on a plane at night circling over NYC for a long time, gazing at the Moon and NYC and that it was in that moment that the words in the song ..."When you get caught between the moon and NYC....I know it's crazy, but it's true, If you get caught btween the moon and NYC, the best that you can do, best that you can do is fall in love...." ..were written. It is a wonderful story and I'd really like to know if it is true and if so, who is the writer who had this experience and is credited for these words? Burt Bacharach???? Christopher Cross??? Peter Allen??? Thanks so much!!!!
