An alternative rock trio formed in Boise, Idaho, USA, Built To Spill developed a considerable reputation for their energetic performances, strong songwriting and frenetic musicianship for a variety of independent labels before making the move to Warner Brothers Records in the mid-90s. Long-standing fans were divided about this development, though most were pleased that this talented band's records would now get the professional distribution and marketing that they deserved. There had been several other interested parties following the success of 1994's There's Nothing Wrong With Love, an accomplished collection that triggered a major-label bidding war. This is a wonderfully musical piece with a touch of lyrics in the forefront of the song. The point is that the lyrics are by no means the focus of this song. It's about a mood, a feeling, a very idea that you can hear belted out through every essentially necessary note, rest, delay, and beat. Thank you and that is all. Time Trap, particularly the opening, has a transcendental quality to it that elevates it to something wholly ethereal and beautiful. Like essentially all BtoS music, it has a mercurial, ethereal quality and fully allows you to be enveloped in its sound. All you need to hear is one mind-blowing solo by Doug Martsch or Brett Nelson and you're hooked. Their range is increadible-- from gutwrenching love songs to upbeat indie pop to 20 minute ballads. Guitarist/singer/songwriter is a guy who you just have to love. A humble guy who truly loves music, and that's whats important. I HIGHLY recommend buying one of their albums. If you grew up in a small town and have held onto small memories, you will empathize with this song.
