Review about Breath The meaning. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/4/09 A few people earlier had said what they believed the meaning to this song was. Some of them, were pretty close to how I interpreted the lyrics. However, I saw the meaning to be slightly different. I think that the song is about a guy who fell in love with a girl [or vise versa] that had been very hurt and tormented in some horrible life experiences. He probably knew her before she had these experiences, which would probably be when he fell in love with her. The girl that he loves had been so hurt in her life that she put up walls around her heart, almost becoming numb to the everything. Which is why he would "see nothing in her eyes". He "knows nothing of her kind" because he doesn't exactly understand why she is so distant and different now [considering she wont open up to him], he is not used to dealing with people hurt to such extents. Her "evil mind" would probably symbolize the fear she has to letting someone into her heart again. And when he says that he won't reveal it, I interpreted as him saying that he wont hurt her like the others. And he wants her to sacrifice herself by letting the walls down and giving him the love that's still left in her heart. He believed he can bring the fire back that he once knew and fell in love with. But she's so cold and probably mean now that she keeps pushing him away, and it's really hurting him, which is why he probably says "get away, please", he probably wants who she has become to go away and let the person he once knew come back. And when he says "you take the breath right out of me", it's probably symbolizing how much he loves her, but who she has become has left a "hole where his heart should be". And she needs to fight to become the girl she once was. And when he wants her to "pour the salt into the open wounds", he's probably telling her that she can heal the horrible wounds but it will be painful before it gets better. And he wants her to let him in so that he can help. When he says he will be the death of her, I believe it symbolizes the death of who she has become, because in order to revive who she once us, the cold person has to die [metaphorically speaking of course]. And he's waiting and praying that she will realize that he can help her and that she will change. He wants her to hate who she has become because then she will want to change. Victor is totally right, and if you really just think music is for entertainment, go play in the trafic. Listen, this song struck a chord in me, just as Victor mentioned music does to people. Not only this song, but almost every BB song, a lot of Rise Against and some Metallica, all struck a chord of emotions in me. Too me, this song is almost like a mirror to how I feel sometimes, mainly all the time. And the melody and rhythm of the song makes it even better. Let me give an example. Brittany Spears. Not only does she have little or no talent to speak of, but her music was not even hers to express. Most of her songs were written by someone else and she just sang and writhed to them. Ok, fine. That's entertainment, cheap as it may be. But for someone to put their heart and soul into a song, drawing from their deepest feelings of their current or past state of mind, something with so much feeling behind it, you can hear it in the music. You can FEEL it. Especially if you can relate. That's the whole point. That's the catch that ensues the entertainment factor. GOOD music has depth and feeling and emotion. But when I listen to a song, I not only listen to the melody- I listen to the words and what they mean to me. In my opinion the only good songs are the ones that actually make sense and I can relate to. I think this song does that. It's about understanding that you can try but sometimes the feeling fades.
