Brand New Lyrics

Brand New was conceived in a basement in Merrick,NY where
drummer, Brian Lane, and frontman, Jesse Lacey began their
first informal rehearsals. It didn't take long for them to
realize that they had some pretty solid songs between
themand that people needed to hear them.

The pair quickly recruited long time friend Garrett
Tierney, as well as Vin Accardi, to play bass and guitar,
respectively. The group was complete and soon set about
recording their first demo, a four-song CD that the band
recorded, produced and released by More...

------ About the song Jesus Christ performed by Brand New

The song Limousine is from 3 points of view. The first is from the mother, up until the point he starts singing "Your beauty supreme." At the part where it starts sing "One I love you so much.." is from Katie's point of view.
Other than that, this is such a beautiful song. To me it kinda has a double meaning, that of religious and that of just a guy talking about a girl. That's just me, anyways.

To the guy below me, thanks for the story. it just made you look really stupid and show how lazy you are that you couldn't look up a song lyric before someone tattooed the wrong lyrics on it

------ About the song The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot performed by Brand New

I view it as a relationship between a guy and a girl they never got past the friend stage. She use to have feelings for him and he lost his shot and did not relize it until she moved on. now he is realizing that she was everything he wanted. thats how i see it at least.

------ About the song Handcuffs performed by Brand New

This band is so talented, it's crazy, and yes, I was scared by the drowning babies part at first to, but it really is just a metaphor. Play Crack the Sky was a metaphor of Jesse's life in the form of a shipwreck. I was too surprised that Vinny wrote this. I think it's about loving someone, say a friend, a lover, a family member who has hurt them badly. I'll try and put it into a situation to express what I mean. Say it's about a brother who is a drug addict, and is constantly hurting the family do to this. Of course his brother is ashamed of him, and angry towards him, but at the same time, only wants the best for him. It could be any situation where a person is torn between love and concern for the wellbeing of their loved ones, and revenge.

Religious Stuff People Are Discussing | Reviewer: AnonymousBrandNewLover
------ About the song Limousine performed by Brand New

There could be numerous reasons he wrote the lines he did about the tragedy. I don't think all of them are religious though. He was writing in a perspective of someone that is not himself in every verse, and as any writer, whether it's a story or a song, knows to put themselves into the other character's shoes. Perhaps it was the driver that was religious, which explains him seeing the Messiah. But I think the bridge is more an explanation, what happened before the accident. Maybe Jesse was singing about the driver being heartbroken, or something like this and trying to drown his sorrows in alcohol, which set it off.Like when it says, "One will love you so much" it could mean, just take one little drink, it won't hurt, and you'll feel better, and that number increases as he becomes intoxicated. Maybe he had an unrequited lover, which explains "I love you so much, but do me a favor baby don't reply" because he knew her only answer would be she couldn't love him, and that was driving him crazy. I think he picked this to write about because he had lost so many people to drinking and driving in his own life.
A note about Sowing Season, originally, the first two verses were from Rupert Kipling's If, but in the final version it's only the second verse. I think he wrote the song before he lost his friends, and rewrote the beginning after it happened, which is why the whole song seems to be about more than just that. When he says "I am on the mend/At least now I can say that I am trying" he may be referring to his own alcohol dependency. In their first album, Your Favorite Weapon, let's face it, the way he solved everything was by drinking, and I've heard rumors about them being horribly drunk and all that at concerts. Perhaps losing his friends put things into perspective for him.
Also, they're not breaking up. If they stop performing, than so be it, sad as that is, but they wouldn't break off and go separate ways after decades of being best friends and bandmates. That might just be a rumor, I don't think any band member could do what they do without the other members joining them.

------ About the song Jesus Christ performed by Brand New

Not sure if its been said, but this song is about the aftermath of a drunk driver who accidentally killed a little girl. This is from the perspective of the man who committed the murder whereas the song Limousine (MS Rebridge) is told from the viewpoint of the little girl. At least that's what I heard and it makes a lot of sense if you look at both lyrics.

------ About the song The No Seatbelt Song performed by Brand New

This was on the album Your Favorite Weapon, I do believe. The rest of the songs are good, but they're less deep on what you would hear listening to Deja Entendu and later albums, with a few exceptions. Pretty much, what I get from the album is the fact there is one simple cure for everything: alcohol. This song sounds like the Jesse Lacey and the Brand New I know and love from Deja, the Devil and God, and Daisy. It's the start of all the heart-break and pain. I really do suspect Jesse has some form of depression or self-loathing, although he seems normal in all his interviews. But the music he writes in pain is beautiful, and this is the first note in a long, sad, magical, magnificent journey.

great lyric - and even if her plane crashes tonight she'll find some way to dissappoint me, by not burning in the wreckage or drownng at the bottom of the sea! God i feel like that sometimes. Heartache is horrible.

------ About the song Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades performed by Brand New

This song isn't about rape at all, if a guy doesn't want to have sex he won't pop a boner. You know how hard it is for a girl to rape a guy? This song is basically how nervous the boy is feeling about basically entering the world of adulthood. Because really what separates a boy from a man?

"He's wet from head to toe..." can either mean he was still soaked from the rain outside or he's sweating

Yes-it does contain references to Jesus | Reviewer: J
------ About the song Jesus Christ performed by Brand New

This song and the video have some very deep meanings and they do refer to biblical Christianity and also mental illness to some degree. The phrases he uses can only come from someone infused in the Christian faith. The putting Jesus back on the cross is insider talk for pushing Jesus away yet not really rejecting him. You can't talk to Jesus (as in this song) and put him back on the cross if you have no faith to start with. The references to "save" and coming back for people like me all refer to Jesus salvation from death in biblical terms. The reference to meeting Thomas at the gate )of heaven at death) is not found in scripture..but stay with me now. It continues..will Thomas ask to see my hands refers to Thomas needing to examine Jesus' hands and feet before he would believe the man standing in front of him was really Jesus alive again. So the song implies that Thomas (the guy who had to be sure) might doubt the singer's acceptance at the gates of heaven..so he will ask to see proof. It is a really cool and deep Christian reference. The Christian concept of crucifying your earthly will (which seeks self destruction)and allowing God to work new life in you..is where the idea of the singer showing his hands at the gate comes from. Deep theological concept and symbolism. I guess my last thought is the we all have wood and nails refers to building and nailing Jesus to the cross. The Christian theology is God transformed himself into a man so he could interact with man and know exactly what it is to be a man. He came to die for all men, paying the bill so to speak, so we don't have too. So our self-serving, self-destroying nature is what Jesus was sacrificed for. So we all got wood and nails..refers to our brokenness, or "sin"-which means "missing the target". Or it could also refer to our ability to wrongly crucify others in an attempt to make ourselves "better". There are also references in the song and video to hallucinations and terrors. If they don't put me away....means mental hospital when coupled with the images in the video. The words disappearing from the page is another reference to things falling apart. The shots of the guy with angel wings, testing out the branches in a take-off position all refer to leaving this earth..wanting to leave. Jumping off the building is suicide because the guy chose it. The rising up and flying seems to symbolize freedom the earth and the guy's terrors. Someone I love very much suffered a lot of these terrors and wanted to leave here...and did. He struggled a bit with Jesus but in the end grabbed hold of him before he "left". I can't wait to go myself and see him and Jesus too. He listened to this song right before he left earth.
