Bowl Of Oranges Lyrics
Artist(Band):Bright Eyes
Review The Song (25)Print the Lyrics
The rain, it started tapping on the window near my bed. There was a loophole in
my dreaming, so I got out of it. And to my surprise my eyes were wide and
already open. Just my nightstand and my dresser where those nightmares had just
been. So I dressed myself and left them, out into the gray streets. But
everything seemed different and completely new to me. The sky, the trees,
houses, buildings, even my own body. And each person I encountered, I couldn't
wait to meet. and I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health. I said "there is nothing that I can do for you that you can't do
for yourself." He said "Oh yes you can. Just hold my hand. I think that would
help." So I sat with him a while and then I asked him how he felt. He said, "I
think I'm cured. In fact, I'm sure. Thank you stranger, for your
therapeutic smile."

So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone. And your eyes must
do some raining if you are ever going to grow. But when crying don't help and
you can't compose yourself. It is best to compose a poem, an honest verse of longing or a simple song of hope. That is why I'm singing... Baby don't worry cause now I
got your back. And every time you feel like crying, I'm gonna try and make you laugh. And if I can't, if it just hurts too bad, then we will wait for it to pass and I will keep you company through those days so long and black. And we'll just keep working on the problem we know we'll never solve of Love's uneven remainder, our lives are fractions of a whole. But if the world could remain within a frame like a painting on a wall. Then I think we would see the beauty then. We would stand staring in awe at our still lives posed like a bowl of oranges, like a story told by the fault lines and the soil.

Just a point. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/22/09

First of all, "just a thought, you might not of wanted to but you kinda ripped that last sentence off of Gandi. HAHAHA. But what I wanted to say is that I enjoy bright eyes very much. They went from being the songs I listened to in the car, to being my comfort music. Conor Oberst's lyrics are very strong and have a way to intensify or emphasise your emotions. To me his sad songs always make me feel more comfident even though I feel the depression. and his happy songs, such as this one, have a happy feeling and a thought that every one is very selfish. Besides the point I just wanted to take this little writing to say that I love bright eyes because I noticed thast the mountain valley band doesnt have quite the same feel (not that they aren't good) and that bright eyes more of an impact.

beautiful | Reviewer: Ed | 8/23/09

Bright Eyes has this way of capturing real emotions and twisting them into lyrics. I enjoy listening to their songs because they're packed with true feeling.

I love this little bit:

"And every time you feel like crying, I'm gonna try and make you laugh. And if I can't, if it just hurts too bad, then we will wait for it to pass and I will keep you company through those days so long and black."

such a beautiful thought, being there for the ones you love.

Just a thought. | Reviewer: Natty | 7/22/09

Bright Eyes is, well, my favorite band ever.
Simply because the lyrics are not the norm, almost like... organized chaos. In a sense.
By that, I mean some people tend to think of the lyrics as long and annoying and "creepy."

one thing I have noticed about Bright Eyes, is the vast majority of the endings of his songs are optimistic.
Like they're showing up the listening the possibilities.
What could be, in the end.
But along with that also the truth of the moment, the hardships before the happy ending.
In essence; the organization of the chaos.

This song follows that pattern as well.

There are the nightmares, a common subject in his songs.
But then there is the epiphany.
The realization that all you need to do to make a difference in someone's life is simply be their friend.
I found that people have the tendency to lose faith in humanity when they feel that humanity has abandoned them.
But if you just take the time to show that you care, and not abandon them if it doesn't work right away, you can make a difference in someone's life.
Like being the change that you want to see.

In my opinion, at least.

Deep | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/11/09

I always just listened to this and didnt think about it, but loved it. Now that i read the lyrics it is very meaningful and deep. I only get bits and cant truly figure out the whole meaning, but the bits are still influential
It is also a wonderful song

I don't think I've ever listened to a Bright Eyes song that I didn't like. Conor's lyrics are so deep, heart breaking, and beautiful. I can listen to Bright Eyes in any mood I'm in. This song however is one of my absolute favorites. I love Bright Eyes with all my heart and soul. It's one of the few bands that has any originality left.

I think | Reviewer: Jennifer | 12/6/08

I think the song is about how lonely people get sometimes, and how depressed they are because of it. BE's explains that all you need is someone there to give you company, and when that's not a fix he'll help you get through it and that crying is okay, everyone needs to do it sometimes, and it helps us get through things.

thank you bright eyes, for your therapeutic lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/24/08

to me, this is about life. bright eyes points out that all of our lives are a "fractions of a whole". he also says that you can help people by just sitting with them and holding their hands, which is amazing. its also true. i have been in and out of the hospital for the past four years with a lovely combination of clinical depression, depressive personality disorder, depersonalization, and suicidal tendencies. this song represents the one good and happy day out of the 364 bad days. its looking on the bright side and realizing that "your eyes must do some raining if youre ever ognna grow". this song has gotten me through a lot, so thanks, bright eyes.

well | Reviewer: Mike Black | 1/31/08

I always thought this is one of coner's more simple meanings in a song, it's basically everything can be great if you choose to look at it that way, and think about the bigger picture "world remain with in a frame", but it also understands how people do get down, and when they do they need a little bit of help and love. And acknowlages how Oberst uses Catharsis to help himself through troubled times.

But even without thinking about meanings it's a great song, lovely melody that gets in your head and you can't stop humming it and general upbeat break from some of obersts darker work e.g "Day's gonna come", "If winter ends" "Padriac my Prince" or any of "fevers and mirrors" album. It just shows his versatility, honesty and tenderness.

loooove this one | Reviewer: tiarne | 1/17/08

i love this song and the lyrics. reminds me of the good times in life and yeah pretty much makes me cry everytime i listen to it but its beautiful :]

in context to 'going mainstream' | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/15/08

the definition of being a 'successful' artist is much more than popularity and money, especially to this band.

in my opinion, bright eyes is an EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL band. period.
