Bonnie Raitt - one of the most critically admired yet
commercially ignored white R&B singers in the history of
popular music, Bonnie Raitt only achieved the success and
respect she had so obviously deserved with her tenth album,
almost 20 years after her recording debut. The daugher of
Broadway star John Raitt (of Carousel and The Pajama Game
fame), Bonnie Raitt (born 1949) was first captivated by the
blues and began learning guitar at the age of 12.
After dropping out of college in 1969, she began playing on
the US folk and blues circuit, turning heads due to her
ability - almost unique in a white female - to play
credible bottleneck guitar. She became friendly with many
of the surviving blues legends, including Howlin' Wolf,
Mississippi Fred McDowell and partic More...

------ About artist/band Bonnie Raitt
I was thoroughly impressed that you can still kick and give 200%! I knew you would come out with "I can't make you love me" for an encore. please don't be afraid to sing the tender songs. You can paint a picture and rip someone's heart out better than anyone else I know. I am a singer, songwriter, musician too, and I have learned a lot from you. You are beautiful and I really believe that all singer, songwriter-musicians have a higher purpose in life-to help people with their own lives and problems and to try to help them make some kind of logic out of them. Keep on writing or singing about what you're really feeling- and don't doubt for a minute that you aren't reaching someone and making a difference.

So true ... too true. Once again, she hits the mark. Dead on.
If you've lived and loved, you've likely felt the emotions that this song reveals ... whether you want to admit it, or not.
Not wanting to admit this sort of empathy is, of course, the nature of this song's appeal. Yet the song itself encourages such unwilling honesty ... and then comforts in reward.

------ About the song Nick of Time performed by Bonnie Raitt
The very first time I heard this song, I was so taken with how it seemed to say what I'd been going through... this is one of those songs that will remain ageless throughout time, for as we grow older we will relate!
I remember hearing Bonnie talking about when she wrote this song on an interview... she said she had been in a writing slump and she went up in the mountains to a friend's cabin to hibernate and WRITE! Boy, did she ever!!!
Amen, Bonnie... sing me some blues!!!

------ About the song Any Day Woman performed by Bonnie Raitt
Bonnie's voice on this song is among the most poignant and beautiful and that's saying a lot for a woman with one of the most beautiful voices in the business. Her phrasing is second to none.

------ About the song I Will Not Be Broken performed by Bonnie Raitt
This has been around awhile, but last week was the the first time I've ever heard it. Love this song.
Three days of snow in a burn'in hell, bet your a wanderin how I am
I rang that number all night long, got no comfort on the telephone
Went out and caught me a midnight flight, thought alittle lovin would make it all alright
The landlord said you moved away and left me all of your bills to pay,
look out baby I think you made your move to soon,
He left me with some cheap old car, livin in Vegas aint to hard
I ran it up to about 15 grand, counted it out and held in my hand
That kind a word will get around, I met the law and they called your bond
Now I hear ya knockin baby at my door, but you don't live hear no more
Hey baby, I think you made your move to soon. Intrumental
Guy sings: I've been from Spain to Tokyo, Africa and Ohio,
I never try to make the news, I'm just someone who sings those low down blues
I take my lovin everywhere, I come back to see if ya still care
One lover here, one behind, one in my arms, one on my mind,
But baby I never make my move to soon
Oh you can count on us darling never make your move to soon.

------ About the song Feels Like Home performed by Bonnie Raitt
This isn't a technical review of the musical merits of the song, but rather, a testimonial to its meaning.
Four years ago I married a man who had survived a terrible childhood of abuse and years of being limited in what he could do. I saw his potential in the light shining from his eyes and fell for him immediately.
Whenever we hear this song, we fall in love again, for each of us can find our separate lives and the joy of our love in these lyrics. Whenever the song plays, we stop what we're doing and listen to the words only our hearts utter on a daily basis.
There are more polished love songs, I'm sure, but this one cuts right to the core of what's important between two people. Thank you for writing it, Bonnie!
