Can it be 30 years since Bobby Darin’s untimely passing?
Walden Robert Cassotto was born May 14, 1936 in the Bronx,
New York. As a boy he yearned for fame and a show business
career, searched the phone book, and became Bobby Darin.
Bobby tragically left us on December 20, 1973, too young,
only 37, before he could embrace his future, before we
fully appreciated the Darin treasure and mystique. I knew
Bobby 10 years, 1963 to 1973. During his last four exciting
years we were close friends and business partners. I was
editor and publisher of the Las Vegas Free Press and owned
Nevada’s first health food restaurant, Food For Thought.

------ About the song If I Were A Carpenter performed by Bobby Darin
The entire piece is about tradesmen and their jobs and regardless if he were one--would she miss the other --so where does this 'colored blouse' come from. I always though the lyrics were "Would you miss your COBBLER--his soft shoes shining." A cobbler makes shoes and is one of those older tradesmen like the tinker etc. Who wrote this song and can someone ask them the logic of it being a 'colored blouse with soft shoes shining???

Yes, this song is in the first Bioshock game. It plays in the opening, in one of the trailers, and it's also on a jukebox in Fort Frolic.
I absolutely love this song, and the kinda creepy overtone it gives the game when your in the cocktail lounge where it plays on the jukebox..
Good job Bobby Darin, you made an old song that I like.

------ About artist/band Bobby Darin
As a kid, I worked several times with Mr. Darin I learned the biz fast & at times very tough, from 1959-1969. I was part of our family song & dance group & he asked my parents if I could work with him. I have many story's good & not so good but he was the best task master,I ever worked with, even on B.Way. I just saw his movie, not real but I sure miss him, sandra and his son "monkey" John
I never heard of him til after i saw the movie beyond the sea (i was born in 1982)now i can't get enough of him. I love his songs..I went from a die hard rap and heavy metal fan to a die hard Bobby Darin fan. I love him and i wish i was born during his time just to see him on stage just once. He truely has inspired me, i feel sad for his loved ones that lost him. But his music has turned my life around..Thanks Bobby Darin...where ever you are...Thank you!

Simple Song of Freedom | Reviewer: JoAnn
------ About artist/band Bobby Darin
I own the DVD "Beyond the Sea" and watch it often because I so love Bobby Darin's unrivaled talent and never cease to be in awe of the remarkable portrayal of the legend by Kevin Spacey. Bobby's song, "Simple Song of Freedom" is as appropriate now (perhaps more) as it was when he wrote it. It should be a 'household' word for performing artists and sung at every possible opportunity. How can we make that happen?

I was 2 years older than Bobby Darin, being born on Jan. 29th 1934 in downtown Jersey City, NJ. I remember singing "SPLISH SPLASH" at a teen hop many years ago. I tried emulating him, to me he was the NEW Frank Sinatra for my age our age group. His Mack the Knife was great, but I enjoyed the song on the reverse of that record called "WAS THERE A CALL FOR ME" which he also wrote. That song would have been No.1 if it were not coupled with MAC..... I remember the words to the song but cannot get the lyrics because bobby did not want to release it and I can't find the song anywhere.
To me he was a talent without equal...... May he rest in peace.
P.S. Thank you for his Bio. Joe Trimarchi

------ About the song Artificial Flowers performed by Bobby Darin
I always liked this song and especially BobbY Darin's rendition.
In a way it reminds me of a child labor poem that went something like...
The factory is so near the golf course
That almost any day
All the CHILDREN hard at work there
Can see the the MEN at play!!
I LOVE THE OLDIES!!I LOVE BIOSHOCk! i beat bioshock 4 times and im almost beat it 5 and i first herd this song on bioshock it rules but i cant find a place or link to download it.

------ About the song Beyond the Sea performed by Bobby Darin
I agree, I first heard this song actually on a commercial for Bioshock on tv (which looks like an awesome game haha) and i wanted to look up the words cause I've heard it on like Carnival cruise liner commercials and such before and i really like it! Way to go Bobby!
The very first time I heard this song, as done by Tim Hardin, it became one of the most favorite of folk songs of my interest in music. I was in awe of the lyrics and the importance it had toward the conditions in the world. It remains an anthem for all peoples just as politicians and governments continue create conflicts to the hindrance of a peaceful existence of humanity.
There is no other song that would be deserving of being A Global Anthem.
My wife and I just saw the Kevin Spacey movie bio on Bobby Darin. Then I read Jay Tell's tender tribute to him, thanks to Google. Now I will pay him the best tribute I can think of. I will buy his records and enjoy his talent. I hope that he and Sandra are living it up.
