Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain Lyrics - Hank Williams

Review The Song (11)

Written by Fred Rose, 1945

In the twilight glow I see her
Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.
As we kissed good-bye and parted,
I knew we'd never meet again.

Love is like a dying ember.
Where only memories remain.
Through the ages I'll remember-
Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.

Now my hair has turned to silver.
All my life I've loved in vain.
I can see her star in heaven.
Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.

Someday when we meet up yonder,
We'll stroll hand in hand again.
In a land that knows no parting-

Anyone co-write this song? thought I met the guy! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/4/13

My son and I were in Nashville during Music Fest the year Willie Nelson was there...early 2000's Met a guy in Legends who said he wrote it, I thought, he was a really old guy, had his guitar case with him and his wife. They were from Canada. He even bought us a beer. He said Willie sang it and he was friends with Willie and he was there to see him. The band playing at the time even acknowledged this guy as having something to do with the song....I wonder now who it was, as I thought it was Fred Rose until I googled him and he died in the 50's

Song not written by Hank Williams | Reviewer: John Davis | 12/2/12

Fred Rose wrote this song in 1945. That's a matter of record. He didn't even meet Hank Williams until 1946. That's a matter of record. Fred Rose didn't take credit for it while Hank Williams "actually" wrote it. Somehow, these little "inside secrets" from anonymous sources get started and take on a life of their own. Hank Williams did sing and record the song in 1951.

only hanks song | Reviewer: Tony Allen Liverpool UK april 2012 | 4/2/12

I think hank wrote this song, at that time 1945 fred was just getting into country music and he tried to talk hank out of recording lovesick blues.thank god hank ignored him.never to be surpassed

Poignant WWII masterpiece | Reviewer: Wild Bill | 1/30/12

In 1945 WWII was over in Europe and thousands of American military personnel were returning home, some with "war brides". Due to quotas and other restrictions/regulations many sweethearts were left behind, particularly in England and France. My mind's eye sees a rainy day in London when a young GI kissed his sweetheart goodbye, never to see her again. Filipino Baby is a similar song, but with a much happier ending.

I am dead too... | Reviewer: RAP | 10/17/11

My dear son whom I shall always love more than anything has chosen a life without his father and me. I thought it would kill me and I believe it has.
Now he is gone, dead to me. I am dead too and all I have are precious memories most especially when he was a little fellow and loved me more than anything too. He is dead. I am dead...

Lost Memory Of A Beautiful Song | Reviewer: Harley lee Nichols | 9/6/11

I had a dream my youngest daughter was playing a piano and singing this song my wife and I was humming along with her . What's funny is in my conscious mind can't remember the lyrics but in my subconscious did . I had to look it up to see if it was right .

never too old to learn | Reviewer: charlie peace | 5/29/11

truth about song authors | Reviewer: Thomas Franklin | 4/12/11

I have been listening to real country music for 72 yrs.being born in Tenn. This song was really written by Hank Williams Sr. and was bought from him by the Acuff-Rose co. for a meager price. That is the way things were done back in the 40's, and even though Fred Rose took credit for writing this song because he bought it from the real author, he did this to a multitude of other songs also. It is a great song and is in the style of songs written by Hank Sr.

Others who sang before Willie | Reviewer: Lalin DeSilva | 10/27/10

All 4 verses are included & the words are absolutely correct. That is just great. I think the original song was sung even before Fred Rose added the 3rd verse. Before Willie Nelson sang this, Elvis Presley & Olivia Newton John too sang this memorable classic so much more beautifully. Even before them even Jean Autrey (sorry if I spelt the name wrong)sang this. Of course subject to corrections it is about this christian pastor who was crazily in love with a beautiful girl, through whose hands she came to her untimely death. And it is about him singing away his unfullfilled love.

A good, simple country song. | Reviewer: Bill Ellington | 10/11/04

A beautiful song! One of my favorites. Very simple and very moving.
The song was not written by Willie Nelson although he performs it very
well. The song was written in 1945 by Fred Rose and if I am not mistaken
was first recorded by the Carter Family.

Blue eyes not by Willie Nelson | Reviewer: J reeves | 8/9/04

Yes, Willie sang it, but it was written by Fred Rose in the 1940's.
