Black Balloon Lyrics - Goo Goo Dolls

Review The Song (10)

Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you're not thinking about tomorrow
'Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees

A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer

You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
What's the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer

And there's no time left for losin'
When you stand they fall

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder

All because I'm
Comin' down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go and lead you home and
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me

Black Balloon is Clich (In a Good Way) | Reviewer: acmeditator | 4/5/12

There is a girl I like, and she likes me back. The "thousand other boys could never reach you. How could I have been the one." and "Comin' down the world turned over" lines really touch me. Because my life has changed since I met her. 'Love the Goo Goo Dolls!

I feel what Zoster was saying. I heard this song on Without a Trace the other day (because the victim had been gone missing in the 90s, lots of good songs were played) and it instantly became my favorite song all over again. 10 years later (now at 25 years old), the lyrics are more meaningful and make a lot more sense. Easily one of the best written songs of all time.

Addiction | Reviewer: tony | 1/28/08

I think it shows how when you love someone who has an addiction to anything, be it drugs or another person, you will always be second best...no matter how hard you try.

However it hits you | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/25/08

I think this song is about love in every sense of the word. In what ever way this song effected you is what the band wanted it to. But basically, just love. That's all we can ever do.

The song is actually about Robby's wife, and how she became more and more addicted to heroin, until she eventually ODd and died. It's really personal, but in a more universal theme, Johnny said it's about someone you love just fucking up so bad.

It's so beautiful and heartbreaking. The Goo Goo Dolls have a huge portion of my heart because their lyrics are just so meaningful. <3

Memories | Reviewer: Zoster | 10/26/07

You know I forgot how powerful this song really was. It is almost a decade old and when I hear it it triggers memories from that year in my life, not a lot of songs do that but Black Balloon does. This song truly combines all of the streangths of the Goo Goo Dolls, catchy, deep, powerful, and a sort of ballad. One of the 90's best without a doubt!

Breath Taking | Reviewer: Lizzi | 5/22/07

It hits you hard. We've all been in a position similar. You lose your breath, your heart throbs and you remember that one person you loved and cried yourself to sleep over many consecutive nights. Black Balloon takes you back. It leaves you in wonder. Black Balloon is wonderous.

This song is easily one of the top five greatest modern rock songs. Beautiful, emotional, and powerful. This song conveys what it's like to love someone who...is not...and will never be on the same page as you. The pain is so real, yet so beautiful.

For all who loved where love seemed pointless, keep loving.

I think this song is beautiful. From the soft and haunting beginning to the dramatic climax it really is a moving track. My favourite song by the goo goo dolls
