Beyond the Sea Lyrics

Performed by Bobby Darin
Review The Song (18)

Somewhere beyond the sea
somewhere waiting for me
my lover stands on golden sands
and watches the ships that go sailin'

Somewhere beyond the sea
she's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
then straight to her arms
I'd go sailin'

It's far beyond the stars
it's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

no more sailin'
so long sailin'
bye bye sailin'...
move on out captain

First time heard song Bobby Darin. I was 16 yrs old and fell in love with it. It has remained one if my favorite songs. The Celtic women also recorded this song and their version is quite different than Bobby's but is beautiful with their unique style. Maybe it is the words that touch our hearts so!

The original song was written and sung in 1946 by a Frenchman, Charles Trenet, the original title is La Mer. Then in the mid '60's Mireille Mathieu, another great French singer recorded it as well, then Bobby Darin made the English version. You can see and listen Trenet and Mathieu on Youtube.

First heard this song in the late eighties when the guy I was working with made up a tape from his Dad's albums for us to listen too as we travelled round the country in the van. It blew me away and must have worn that tape out as we would listen then rewind to play again, singing at the top of our voices, getting laughs and funny looks as we sat in traffic or at the lights blasting out "Beyond the sea" ahhhh happy memories...

Whenever Nemo would go off, I would sweep my son off the couch and dance into a "Heaven-on-Earth" moment. No matter how tired or down I would be this song was our moment to forget the orld and it was just us. Since my son is wheelchair-bound he looked forward to the end of the movie because he KNEW I would be right there to dip, spin, twirl and cut the rug until we both were breathless. When I’m dead and gone I hope that whenever he hears this song he will remember how much fun we had at the end of Nemo. Thanks Bobby and thank you Pixar.

i have loved the bobby darin version of the song beyond the sea when i first heard it at the age of 16 in january 1960-recorded in 1959. although i was around in the forties i didn't really remember any of the original recordings. i am sure they are great, but nothing measures up to bobby's. the only recording from 1946 i remember well was bing crosby's would you like to swing on a star? from going my way, i think. i was three. anyway rod stewart does a really good version of it on his latest great american songbook volume 5. i am listening to it now

Robbie Williams sang the version on Nemo. Bobby Darin sang his in 1959 and it was a remake of a beautiful French song 'la mer' (the sea). Beyond the sea would have to be one if the most uplifting songs you could hope for. If you lime this try 'Mountains if Mourne' by Celtic Thunder.

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! | Reviewer: sunnygirl | 7/6/10

:D I first heard this song on Finding Nemo as well. I was about six when we got the movie on DVD for my mom's birthday and I used to dance and sing to the ending credits all the time without knowing the lyrics. It's definitely one of my favorites.
And PIXAR rocks!!!

I first heard this song at the end of finding nemo, but I completely fell in love with it when I was at a concert at the Royal Glasgow Concert Hall when I was about 10 and the bloke who plays Pippin in Lord of the Rings come on stage and sang it. He has the most amazing voice! Then when I was 14, I downloaded bobby's original version and I listen to it most days. It so big and happy and Bobby Darin's voice is so amazing it just pulls it all together :)
