well, well, well, this song just blowed me away. no matter which part, they just did everything right in songwritting.
i thought mordecai is a name from the bible, if i remember it right. so the lyric imo is kind of about a new story about a new mordecai in the modern time.

Alright... I may not be the first to say it but, I love this band more than nearly any other! AS much as I love the killer licks and melodic riffs of selkies it is the best song on the album and as far as it goes I belive "Colors" the next album by BTBAM is much better than Alaska. Combining the same sound BTBAM somehow comes up with something slighty different, but fucking amazing! CHEK IT OUT!

The awesome solo is actually pretty easy. Which makes it even more awesome!
Shredding is simply overrated. And this is real proof of it.
I have listened to this song like 15 times today and i get the chills every time, i cant get enough of it xD

BTBAM is awesome. The beginning is good. But my favorite part by far is the second half. I just love how it changes the heavy fast pace into that very soft piano/ bluesy guitar solo. So much skill

I think here he's talking about the bullshit of school and test taking. having to hold up to the standards of society.

Here he's talking about how even if hes viewed as successful and makes lots of money in our superficial world of consumption, he will still die and not have made a difference to anyone else. so he might as well spend his life doing what he loves: music. And why not growl and scream and be hated by the people who follow those standards??? I love you BTBAM. IM glad you made the right choice.

I think what Rob is saying is right, they're trying to tell people to follow their hearts, and not their heads. Which would also be explained by the "I learned to be selfish today, I learned to be alive" section and the two following lines.
And the "Living Dreamd, Loving.....I've always dreamt of" section could be explained by this. He was dreaming about something that he really wanted, and "Loving" this dream (being content in it just being a dream), but now he's awakening (realising that selfishness is what he needs to be happy) and now he has what he has dreamt of.
