------ About the song The Rose performed by Bette Midler

This was my grandparents' song. My grandmother recently passed away after losing her second battle with breast cancer, and before she died she was in a wheelchair.

One day at church, one of her friends played The Rose for her and my grandpa, and my grandma said she was going to dance along. Her friend thought she was just going to sway back and forth in her wheelchair but my grandma said, "Well? What are you waiting for?? Help me up!"

So she and my grandpa danced to the song for one last time, and this song will always remind me of her. I love you, Grandma. RIP <3

------ About the song The Rose performed by Bette Midler

It is the soul afraid of dying, that never learns to live.
It is NOT the song afraid of dying, that never learns to live - that just doesn't make sense...
The way I interpret it, the soul afraid of dying is preoccupied with death and doesn't have the time or will to live....

While bette Midler did indeed perform this song, Rosemary Clooney did it years earlier and it was written by Ross Bagdesarian (Better known as David Seville, Remember the chipmunks?)in 1939.

------ About the song The Rose performed by Bette Midler

This song will always remind me of the movie 'Napoleon Dynamite' because the 'Happy Hands' club, which does sign language made a dance to this and performed it in front of their class. At the part where it says, "Some say love, it is a hunger.." one of the jocks in the class laughs, and I will always remember that.

------ About the song Sisters (Duet With Linda Ronstadt) performed by Bette Midler

Such a great tune! Ms. Clooney was a superstar to be sure but Midler and Rondstadt most definitely do this wonderful composition justice!I can't believe Bette Midler's talent. She is apparently unliimited. It has already been said of course but Bette Midler is truly a treasure to the western hemisphere. She sings and I tremble, guffaw, weep. To be her slave would be paradise. I could listen to this cd non-stop till death.
