Right now I'm in a rather rocky friendship and this song depicts my feelings near perfectly. Music is how we interpret it. I don't believe there is a right way or a wrong way to look at this song. It's how one relates to it that gives it meaning, I think. It could be about a friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, relative, and so on. I'm livin it, and I think that they are totally spot on. "Is some one gettin the best of you?"...because "I'm" not. Who's the best going to? I hate to keep puttin out this effort, when it's only answered enough to keep me hangin on, I also think "he" knows "he's" not gettin the whole truth... but just can't quit. After he says "I'm your fool", he realizes that he can't do anything but being in love with a cruel girl that treats him bad. So he asks himself "were we born to resist or be abused? The other verses are for his girl, he says "you gave me something I didn't have, but had no use" to make her understand that now his love has come to an end. could be about a friends suicide | Reviewer: Amy | 3/9/09 i can see what everyone is saying, in terms of it being about a relationship between a man and womon. but i kinda of agree with rachel, that it was about a friends suicide. i tried looking into, but i couldnt find info that that is actually what it is about, but i just had a friend kill himself recently and right when i heard this song, i immediatly thought of him. at the same time, i know the foo fighters always wanted fans to take the songs they write and interpret them in their own personal way, so i guess their is no wrong or right answer.
