Best Of You Lyrics
Performed by Foo FightersReview The Song (140)
I've got another confession to make
I'm your fool
Everyone's got their chains to break
Holdin' you
Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Are you gone and onto someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn't have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can't choose
I swear I'll never give in
I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...
Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh...
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love you'd die to heal
The hope that starts the broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
I've got another confession my friend
I'm no fool
I'm getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new
Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I'll never give in
I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

when I hear this song I just think about poeple in my life that fit the lines. for example, I think a lot about track because our coaches only care about winning and take advantage of us because we are "too weak to give in" and "to strong to lose" we have to much pride and we can't help it.
when he says "You gave me something that I didn't have
But had no use" I think about track how it gave me talent and all this, but it's pointless to my life. track has only taught, me through my experiences, that deep down people are obsessed with winning, no one cares about the true positives of running, and it's a horrible ball of stress and anxiety we don't break free from because we have too much pride, even though we hate our instances.
I'm pretty sure no-one else would understand this like it does for me, but every line makes me think about track. and with that I'm sure I wouldn't understand it anyways anyone else means, hell, including dave!

silly people, Grohl obviously added a line to hint a breakup so the millions of mainstream listening people can connect with the song. And I am dissapointed with that; it taints a great song.
not the real meaning, obviously LOL | Reviewer: Anna | 10/30/11
this song is OBVIOUSLY not about ex gf's and disappointed lovers... its all about LIFE and the contact you have to others in your life. Of course, it involves break ups and all similar shit, but basically its not all that this song is about. I suppose. I'm not Dave's psychotherapist or personal mind reader, so its OBVIOUSLY not the real meaning of the song.

This song is about Dave Grohl's experience at a Best Buy store, and how he feels they are convienent and a quick place to get electronics, yet he resents the sh*tty customer service and poor selection of music and dvds as they are always eliminating stuff in their store and when you ask someone where an item is that is featured in the circular , you get 5 moron's standing around doing nothing while it takes 10 minutes for one guy to look it up on their computer ony to tell you they dont have the cd your looking for and to try online, where you then turn and say, if i felt like shopping online i wouldnt had came out to this godforsaken store in the first place. Then as your leaving the security guy who stands at all the entrances and looks like he has a side gig as a bouncer at a night club tells you have a nice night, but yet looks at you like your a weirdo because your leaving the store without a bag or without purchasing something.
Justification to Rock On | Reviewer: Lloyd Marley | 9/21/11
In a nutshell, this song's about his plan to overcome his faults and make the most of his life. More specifically "the life, the love you'd die to heal" shows a connection with his thoughts on Kurt Cobain's "suicide". He can see Kurt's suicidal resolve as stopping the fake "hope that starts the broken hearts". The lines "Confess" is Dave confused how Kurt could "lose faith" in staying alive with Dave, stating the same source of Kurt's "pain" is just as "real" to him. He wonders if Kurt's "gone and onto someone new" but repeatedly hopes this someone is "getting the best of" him (heaven). Personally I think this might be something Dave asks himself a lot. The reason why he's not apart of, even discarding, Kurt's suicidal point. This shows Dave isn't at peace with his friend's death, wanting the consequences of his "suicide", or Dave's "noose", to finally be taken away. The corruptible nature of being in a hit band constantly puts his "heart under arrest", feeling guilty about his role in life. So he justifies rejecting the feeling of losing his "faith" by realizing his effort and work inspires "the best" in many others who may need it, and reminds us that the choice of dying is not up to us. Whether you're born only to resist or abuse, your death vicariously means the death of others.
For real.. | Reviewer: Jessica | 6/22/11
This is not a love song kid, the song itself has nothing to do with "The Man" yes, they are the offspring of Nirvana, but Kurt himself wasn't all about the man either. Songs, like "Polly." and "Rape me" and "Come As You Are" arent man related. So chill man, this song is just a release of his personal struggles hun.
My interpretation - where ever you are, I just hope you're happy | Reviewer: Chris P. | 6/6/11
The way I see it, two people break up due to complications. Dave is still holding on but he's wondering whether the other person is holding on as well. He's asking if this person has moved on; if they've found someone new. He was in bad times and just needed to hang his head, but without her noose. He still has love for her and a deep feeling that she still loves him. He wonders if the best of her (looks, personality, love) belongs to someone else now. He asks if she'll resist this new person, or succumb to being abused by them. He questioned whether he should move on, but decided he couldn't live without her and will not because he can never be happy with someone else. He realizes starting again will do nothing (probably because this whole experience has happened many times before) and thinks that finishing what he started will eventually get him through the tough times. He then asks if she will resist someone new because he refuses to give in to another. That's my interpretation because of similar experiences and feelings. I absolutely love the Foo Fighters and realize there may be other interpretations, but I'm subject to my own opinion. This is one of my favorites bands and songs actually.

This amazing song sums up the hurt people feel when they find out somebody has betrayed them by having an affair. It is genius in that it sums up the cruel fact that the betrayer only sees the 'best bits' and the one left behind picks up the pieces. The lyrics are so accurate in that they note the parts of our personality that we only show after a long term romance. That is it, nothing more..and that is why Dave Grohl will always be a legend,
This is not a love song!! | Reviewer: George | 4/24/11
Why does everyone has to take foo fighters' song and tag it along with romance? ARE YOU FRICKEN DEAF? This band is the offspring of fucking NIRVANA, they sing against 'the man'. Get over yourselves. Oh no sorry, get over your ex-gf's you got dumped! Deal with it!!!
Thanks | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/7/11
Just recently got into the foos and this song sums up what's happening in my life at the mo. This should be prescribed as essential listening to us blokes who can't work out women and totally obsess with what's going on in their lives. Cheers grohl, you're a legend.
It's about YOU | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/4/11
It's about the presence of your Soul resisting perfection but not wanting to be confined in the body. Starting over wears on us.
The chorus is a taunt to the Soul asking if the molding process is getting the best of them as well as "someone" (us) getting the "best" part of them that is perfection.
Meaning | Reviewer: Kelly | 2/7/11
It seems to me that its about having what you cant have? I similarise it to a situation of my own, where I was seeing someone who was in a relationship, but was a renouned cheat - I was mad about him but knew he would move onto someone else if I let him go & hated that. I was replaceable (are you gone and onto someone new) Is someone getting the best of you? Its saying that someone else is getting a better part of that person, other than him. It to me is about getting used and abused by someone you care about and not sure how to free yourself. Hating the fact someone else is getting the better part of them.
stuck | Reviewer: goodtake | 12/30/10
In this song he is stuck in a wrong relationship, and he can either resist love or give in to it, only to be abused. Either way that someone is getting the best of him… He was looking for someone to lean on and heal (hold my head), his lover took him in, but with a trap (nooze). He was too weak to give in (would not let himself love her), and yet too strong to lose her (did not want to be alone). His heart is under arrest (he is stuck), his mind knows what’s right – to break it – yet it would feel like life or death. He must confess this truth (acknowledge) to move on, or that someone will keep getting the best of him…
Very moving song, he manages to conjure up so many conflicts in these short lyrics.

i think it's about guy's preparation for breaking up with girl.
he founded out that it's not what he thought all this time, and is asking himself should he keep trying with somebody new in some new place, or it will he keep that feeling of safety..
he ask himself is it worthy to go and try to catch perfect love, or stay here and try to satisfy himself with what he's got.
but, maybe i'm just subjectively looking on it.

Songs can be interpreted any way the listener wants.
I see the song as being about a guy trying to be the best he can be in life, but that stopping him from excepting a girls love and being in love with her. And if he carries on trying to be the best he can be in life he'll die inside or he excepts the girl love, she'll be the only one getting the best of him, but he will live on full spirited and happy. But he's too scared and "weak" to give into love and abandon he's goals of greatness. Also he's mad at the girl for tempting him with love because its messing with his reality.
