Behind The Wall Lyrics
Artist(Band):Tracy Chapman
Review The Song (5)Print the Lyrics
Last night I heard the screaming
Loud voices behind the wall
Another sleepless night for me
It won't do no good to call
The police
Always come late
If they come at all

Last night I heard the screaming
Loud voices behind the wall
Another sleepless night for me
It won't do no good to call
The police
Always come late
If they come at all

And when they arrive
They say they can't interfear
With domestic affairs
Between a man and his wife
And as they walk out the door
The tears well up in her eyes

Last night I heard the screaming
Then a silence that chilled my soul
Prayed that I was dreaming
When I saw the ambulance in the road

And the policeman said
"I'm here to keep the peace.
Will the crowd disperse?
I think we all could use some sleep."

Last night I heard the screaming
Loud voices behind the wall
Another sleepless night for me
It won't do no good to call
The police
Always come late
If they come at all

For quite a long time have been putting up with a friends silly mistake and standing in the gap defending to his ills turning a blind eye and deaf ear to all of this to show some love but this was not to be. If there is a fight be the ref you can save a life its never a family affair if some one is hurtin protect all' you heard the screams and the fight find out

im a guy | Reviewer: zak | 11/2/09

Although i'm a guy i understand the feeling as i saw these scenarios as a kid growing up and i promise to be the best husband i can be and never inflict that pain and fear someone that cant defend themselves.

Thank you Tracy | Reviewer: Bumblebee | 1/12/09

Every time my fiance hit me I thought of this song. Until finely, I decided I didn't want to be that women. Now I have the lyrics on my wall, and every time I feel like I need to I read them to myself. I wish there was something I could do to make all the other women and men out there who are in relationships that aren't healthy realize that they can do better no one, needs the pain.

the song of silence | Reviewer: Babitha Marina Justin | 10/4/07

I have chosen this song as part of an introductory course on Black American women movement and related issues. the reception of the song as part of the course was astonding. after the song was played, there was pin drop silence in an otherwise vibrant class. besides being a song of the ghettoised black woman, it is also a bone chilling illustration on domestic violence and the reaction of the authorities o it. and the absence of intruments in the background makes it penetrate deep iinto out hearts...
i would say its a song deeply felt by the singer herself
