Stapled shut, inside an outside world and I'm
Sealed in tight, bizarre but right at home
Claustrophobic, closing in and I'm
Catastrophic, not again
I'm smeared across the page, and doused in gasoline
I wear you like a stain, yet I'm the one who's obscene
Catch me up on all your sordid little insurrections,
I've got no time to lose, and I'm just caught up in all the cattle
Fray the strings
Throw the shapes
Hold your breath
Listen!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!
I'm ripped across the ditch, and settled in the dirt and I'm
I wear you like a stitch, yet I'm the one who's hurt
Pay attention to your twisted little indiscretions
I've got no right to win, I'm just caught up all the battles
Locked in clutch
Pushed in place
Hold your breath
Listen!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!
My end
It justifies my means
All I ever do is delay
My every attempt to evade
The end of the road and my end
It justifies my means
All I ever do is delay
My every attempt to evade
THE END OF THE ROAD!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!
I am a world before I am a man
I was a creature before I could stand
I will remember before I forget
BEFORE I FORGET THAT!

Review about Before I Forget world or worm? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/09
ok, first of all who cares. song rocks. it could be either really. maybe they believe in evolution. but there is a verse in the bible, psalm 22:6 "i am a worm, not a man." couldve been taken from that verse too, i doubt it, but possible, anyway, who cares. enjoy the music.

Everytime the video comes on TV, my brain just seems to notice and go into a headbanging frenzy. Then I shout 'Gooooo!!!' really loud. I believe the verses highlight the problems people in this world suffer or claim to suffer. I believe Corey is then trying to say 'stop and think' and the chorus is saying 'put the world before yourself'. Stay (sic) maggots.
like some of you said that he says "Hold your breath, listen!"
and all these arguments if he says world, or worm. the album this is from is "The Subliminal Verses"" that is probably why he says, hold your breath, listen! like he anticipated everyone holding there breath and seeing if he says world or worm.
Great track, and I don't understand some of you | Reviewer: Vejiita | 5/11/09
Hello everyone!
This is a very good song, I have listened to it many times.
I think that these lyrics mean different for each of us. I cannot understand that why some of you try so desperately to search "the one and only meaning". I'm quite sure that there is no only meaning behind this song. It can mean various things for various people, depends on what you see into it. I especially think about for example the inner universe of a being, the "inner infinity" of us, when I listen to this track, but I also think about many more things. But I accept that this song means something else to someone else. So just get over with searching for the one true meaning of it, because in my opinion, there isn't one.
amaizing song! | Reviewer: mr fox | 4/7/09
this has to be one of slipknots best songs, but not the only good one. slipknot is one of my favorite bands ever. i was stocked to see them in concert. i listen to all their songs repedidly, except for the vermillion songs. they are just a tad to slow for me. sorry.
lyrics for this song | Reviewer: chris | 3/27/09
the lyric is world. i have the booklet in my hand as i type this. the logic for both words makes sence because of the lines in the song but it is world. please dont argue and buy the album and read what it says. since its a heavy song and its hard to hear the lyrics it sounds as both so its explainable why people whould mix thiis up
First of all It is worm just like y'all have been saying. | Reviewer: Joshua | 3/18/09
But he is not talking about All of mankind being useless. He is talking about himself being useless and full of pain because of all of the people he sees around him. The whole point of this song was to tell people not to be the same way as all of those idiots that beat people down into the dirt. Also he is talking about how he tries to manipulate people but it doesn't do him any good because he is still trapped in a world that he doesn't like. "I'm ripped across the ditch, and settled in the dirt and I'm
I wear you like a stitch, yet I'm the one who's hurt"
humanity | Reviewer: daphne | 3/14/09
i do not see absolute references to evolution. following the meaning of the song, "worm" does not fit. also, m to b (worm > before), the m would be more pronounced. the last time he says it is closest, but not close enough for "worm".
the song is about humanity. more precisely, humanity's inhumanity, and our individual lack of control over the whole. we are cattle. we are all part of the problem. we are one of humanity before we are an individual. society gets away with the most heinous of crimes, but the individual is the one who is obscene. the individual seeks comfort and protection from society, and MUST, but society uses and abuses them. a person may be good, but they are still part of the whole, and the whole is a monster. a heartless creature that stains, wounds, devours. its actions do not make sense. it functions on a primitive pack instinct. each of us shares this primitive instinct. (which explains why public speaking is terrifying: too many eyes on you at once means you are the prey.) each of us is a prepared sacrifice, which society will burn at its slightest whim. the end justifies the means, and the means are for no other reason than to delay that end. why are we here? for no reason at all. the world would be a better place if we were not.
Hold Your Breath, Listen | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/12/09
I think it's kind of ironic that he says:
"Hold your breath,
Listen"
Right before he sings the verse that everyone has been arguing about, (whether it says world or worm.)
It's almost like he anticipated it, and I'm sure that's what a lot of people did, they held their breath and listened to the next verse trying to figure out which word he used.
it is worm and let me explain | Reviewer: marie | 2/12/09
just like marilyn manson's use of the word worm in his songs it is based on evolution before there was ever any creaters we were all amibas ( thats spelled wrong) that is how evolution started out ending with us so there for i am a worm before i am a man i was a creature before i could stand is evoulution summed up. btw who really cares becaue the song is kickass.
