Out where the river broke
The blood wood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share
Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From Kintore East to Yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
We're gonna give it back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Review about Beds are Burning fire | Reviewer: Tony | 1/18/09
the song is about returning stolen lands in Australia to the aboriginies. 45 dgrees is indeed in celcius and is the temp of the desert at its peak. The line above "Fire will scare the cockatoos" is wrong however. The real lyrics is "Four wheels scares the cockatoos"

forty five degrees | Reviewer: Joe | 6/30/08
A note about the lyrics - where it mentions "forty five degrees", that's probably Celsius, which is the temperature scale used in Australia and most other countries outside the U.S. That works out to 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
A Protest Song too! | Reviewer: Allie (fellow rock lover) | 5/29/08
I love this song, and have always loved it from the time I first heard it, but I never knew it was a protest song until today and it really hits home now!g Giving native Australian lands back to the Pintupi Aborigines is totally a cause worth writing a song for!!!
Katie, I shun rap as well. It is NOT music nor can it be called singing! It disgraces the music industry. Remember: Country + Rap = CRAP. But rap makes up 3/4 of that!
ROCK ON!!! | Reviewer: Katie (rock N roll lover) | 4/4/08
This is my FAVORITE song!!! I love Rock N Roll more than anything!!! and i shun rap!!! SHUN!!!!
I have no idea if this song was about a child's death, or Australia or what ever, but keep playing rock and i'll be happy :)
he's right | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/17/07
this song has nothing to do with a child's death...mauricio is right, it is about the Aboriginal people of Australia and how when the English settlers colonised Australia, they stole all the Aboriginals land and "native title". The song is protesting to try and get the government to return the land to the Native people of Australia.
This is a great political song about giving native Australian lands back, not about a child's death.
