Beck Lyrics

BORN: July 8, 1970, Los Angeles, CA

Simply put, Beck is one of the most critically acclaimed
musicians of the 1990s, the latest artist to be dubbed "the
next Bob Dylan" by industry pundits. Like Dylan, Beck
writes songs with cryptic lyrics, but unlike Dylan Beck
draws not only from folk and rock traditions, but also from
hip-hop, blues, country, psychedelic music, lo-fi indie
rock, and other seemingly contradictory genres, creating a
shambling collage-like sound all his own. Since bursting on
to commercial radio and MTV in 1993, Beck More...

------ About the song Lonesome Tears performed by Beck

Love the way the harmonies in this piece keep climbing unresolved. It mirrors how the singer's love life remains ever unresolved. Wonderful tension in the piece. I also love the contract between the sullen beginning and the outburst of the refrain.

------ About the song Devil's Haircut performed by Beck

I tried cracking the code once or twice, but my "Mind" wasn't in the "right" place. I always thought it was about drugs, and it seems I was correct. I was just using the wrong definition of the word. Drug means to be dragged, more than likely, somewhere unpleasant. Like drugs themselves. Let me "Enlighten" you. The head and mind represent God's salvation. Which got cut-off from satan and his demons. You know, a devils haircut. beck starts the song off staighting something is wrong, so his Salvation is fading, there's a dead end waiting. Rotting in his paradise,as the clock goes by. Verse 5? I ain't even going to go there. Garbage man trees, not the tree of life obviously. Then he steals a bus pass to heaven from someone who was humbled with poverty, then the man dies a horrific death, while still under the pretence that he is still going to Heaven. God's mechanism of promise on sickly sticks, the New Covinant. Discount orgies, last chance for perverted sex, before the bus arrives at hell. Mouthwash is swearing, jukebox is evil music, with the gasoline to be burn the filth. Using the stolen bus pass, he hitches a ride with the Bleeding noses, the nose bleed seats, the bus bound for The Utmost High, Heaven. When he gets there he is sad. in this "case" because his stay in heaven was "brief", it was the "brief case blues". God saw through his trickery and booted him out. Gheto is people, blasting and dicsinigrating. Rock and Roll cost you your soul. I hear what your saying. See Beck, I can also write in double meanings. But my abilities are powered by The True Word Of The Living Spirit that Dwells in my heart. The United Church of God is where I did my research. I'm sure you have heard of us. I guess the cat's out of the bag now, and I know you know what I'm saying, meow, or should I have roared? Well, I know you have a lot on your "Mind" "booking" arrangments can be painfull, but I'm sure He's got a special place picked out "Just" for you. Got a devils hair cut in your mind, got a devils hair cut in your mind, you know the "Rest"

------ About the song Cold Brains performed by Beck

it's a work about death, which is actually pretty obvious and hard to miss.

by title and imagery and word choice: cold brains, hearse, bone corrosion...

the poem depicts an internal conflict between a worm of hope and a hangman's rope, probably religion versus logic and atheism since this is about death. someone in the artist's life probably died and this prompted him to write a song about his feelings and confusion.

just because you're shallow and irrelevant doesn't mean everyone else is.

Does it matter? | Reviewer: Idiots -.-
------ About the song Loser performed by Beck

it doesn't matter what meaning the writer had, originally.
If he bullshitted this, it's STILL excellently written, even if it was accidental.

It has a shitload of subtle references, and it's very, very open to interpretation.

Just because HE didn't see anything in it, doesn't mean yall have to do the same.
Regardless of what he thought of it, it's well written, yes, some of it's a little out there, but a LOT of it ties in, and actually has integral meaning to the central theme. If he bs'd this, he's a damn good Bullshitter.

But just because he did, doesn't mean you get to take away the meaning of the song.
What kind of narrow minded idiot is content with "This song was Bs'd, therefore I don't need to find any meaning to it"

To the people who actually interpret music, it's pure analysis. People do puzzles to keep their spacial intelligence from getting rusty, just as people find meaning in things to keep their analytic intelligence on cue as well. It doesn't matter whether he gave it meaning. It has meaning regardless.
So shut the fuck up about it being BS'd
If you only see the world as what others give meaning to, you're unfortunately missing quite a bit, and are incredibly sub par to the average intelligence, stop trying to spoil things because you don't understand. Some people just like giving things meaning for fun, all you're doing is trying to take that from them, great use of your time.

why you hatin on a dude that got lucky putting the single out? so what if it was a joke, freestyled, or a b-side tune, he got it out, made cash of it, & reached fame. what's your accomplishment? posting this to a website? we'll let you stew on that for a minute.

To the person who wrote: "Wouldn't it be funny? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/12/11" and to everybody else who thinks this song has meaning, soul, or anything else with direction or purpose.

This song was a bunch of bullshit Beck made up in his kitchen. He didn't even like it. The only reason he published it was because of pressure from his label, Bong Load.

Do you get me? A label named fucking "Bong Load" wanted to publish this song. I'll let you stew on that for a while.

Goddamn, people.

------ About the song Loser performed by Beck

Actually, this song was intended as a joke. He freestyled it in Carl Stephenson's kitchen, a producer for rap-a-lot records. It's funny, the first and biggest hit of Beck's career was the result of a bored Beck and his ability to make up random bullshit on the fly. So I wouldn't delve too deep into it, kiddies.

------ About the song Cold Brains performed by Beck

Goose, Beck is a poetic and is an extremely creative individual. Who said that everything a poet writes is supposed to be easily understood? Why does it have to be anything? Good art shouldn't have to be any certain way. If it's good then that's all that matters abstract or not.

Indicment of brain chemistry altering drugs | Reviewer: smeghead
------ About the song Girl performed by Beck

Cheery tune with a dark lyric. Before I watched the vid, the lyrics made me think it was about the murder of a disaffected girl.

After seeing the vid, it seems to be an indictment of the U.S. pharma-friendly culture. It is an allegory of an poor, uneducated but 'good' girl who is being led astray by the pervasiveness of brain chemistry altering drugs. She is having a good time, "Nothing that I wouldn't try" is quoting her. The killer that knows he's going to take her life is ecstasy/acid
/antidepressants/etc.

This is the type of social commentary that I expect from Beck.

------ About the song Loser performed by Beck

I downloaded this song because of the awesome grove and flow. Beck is such an impressive writer to me and obviously very intelligent in a very entertaining sort of way. I, like many other reviewers don't read anything more into this song than freestyle lyrics that just popped up as he went. Even though it seems senseless, I still could have never came up with all of that if I tried. I couldn't help but think though while reading the anonymous facist reviews that are sure we are all headed to a cult now, wouldn't it be funny if they were the one who was right?
