Lyrics - Beach Boys Lyrics

Formed in 1961, by 3 brothers(Brian,Dennis, and Carl
Wilson) , a cousin(Mike Love), and a good friend(Al
Jardine), this band became known as the Beach Boys. Their
first hit, was "Surfin'". Dennis came home and told his
banded family and friend (they had already formed, but they
didn't have any records, singles, or anything out, just had
the whole "band" idea and all down) that they should write
a song about surfing.
Well, they did. Mike sang lead, Brian drummed (Dennis
couldn't drum yet), Carl played guitar, and Al played a
double bass. That started it all. After that, they went on
to have hits such as, "Surfin' USA","Help Me, Rhonda","I
Get Around", "Fun,Fun,Fun,", etc. Bruce Johnston took
Brian's place in touring in '65, so Brian could concentrate
on the writ More...

Review about Beach Boys
better than pet sounds! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the album Holland performed by Beach Boys
pet sounds is good, it even contains some of my fave bb tracks but for overall mastery and completeness of sound and theme, Holland is the best. Yes, it may have the odd hippy drippy lyric but at least it's heart is in the right place and it is one of the few bb albums where all the band make a full and great contribution to the writing of the songs and to its production. They forced Brian to up the ante! Leaving This Town is one of the outstanding tracks: a heart rending ballad that really gets to you; Funky Pretty is magical; Sail On Sailor is a brilliant track from Brian who wrote it when faced with the good sounds the band were creating in the studio and what a fantastic come-back it is. There is nothing else like this album in their repertoire. It is a must for all fans of the band's 'late period'.

------ About the song Disney Girls performed by Beach Boys
Simply beautiful, heard the Boys sing it in 1980 and just 2 weeks ago in Tulsa. I know Bruce won a grammy for I Write The Songs, but he also should have for Disney Girls, too ,a simply stunning song. And previous reviewer Freddie, it was Bruce, not Brian!

------ About the song Sloop John B performed by Beach Boys
I was about 14 in 1974, attending a residential course in Ogmore, Bridgend, S. Wales for the Mid-Glamorgan Youth Choir; one dinner-time we were called into the hall to sing for one of the dinnerladies whose birthday was that day. Someone started singing "Sloop John B," I'd never heard it before, but the mix of voices, in a million layers, made it sound fantastic. I've never heard it sung so well as on that day! Would pay to sing in that choir again.

------ About the song Feel Flows performed by Beach Boys
This way-overlooked "song" was a brain-boggling gem when I first heard it in LA in 1972. "Surfs Up" was a cutout (remaindered) album even then. wow. And the only reason I listened was because of the cool album artwork! What luck! I still have the album i bought for .99. Any dead head should listen to "Feel Flows" "Till I die" and "Surf's Up" (before the tidal wave) and get truly tubed.

Diane from Newport Beach | Reviewer: Jeff
------ About the song California Girls performed by Beach Boys
I never fully appreciated what this song was saying until I met and fell hard for Diane from Newport Beach. She was 18 and I was 21, and I met her in Florida in the Summer of '77...to this day, it was the greatest summer of my life. Sadly, we never married, but when we were together for the summer, she made feel like a king. I'll never understand why she chose me, but she was my California Girl...the Queen of my dreams.
...could write great songs about anything. | Reviewer: Jeff
------ About artist/band Beach Boys
About 20 years ago, a friend and I were listening to the BBs, and he commented that they could write and perform great songs about anything, and make it sound fantastic. How right my friend still is.
Later when living in Florida, I went into a nautically themed store, and I noticed that finally someone wasn't playing worn out Jimmy Buffett music, but instead, was playing Beach Boys' music. Although Buffett is good, he doesn't come close to the greatness of the Beach Boys.
I have never, ever felt bad when I was listening to the Beach Boys...reminds me of the days of my youth in the 60s when I lived in California, and my biggest worry was how I was going to get to the beach.
My personal favourite! | Reviewer: Robert
------ About the song Wouldn't It Be Nice performed by Beach Boys
One of my favourite movies is "Shampoo", and 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' is the soundtrack. It always rings in my head when I think of the Beach Boys, right up there with 'Don't Worry Baby', 'Good Vibrations', and all the tracks from 'Pet Sounds'.
Hearts Were Full Of Spring | Reviewer: MaestroJim
------ About the song Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring performed by Beach Boys
Thank you for the lyrics. The version I know was recorded by the 7th Army Soldiers Chorus in 1963 (not comercially available) and penned by James Blaine who was one of the original Lettermen (along with Connie Stevens) before they both left to pursue other careers. The Chorus recording is almost identical to the Lettermen recording. I have Blaine's original manuscript for the melody and chord symbols. A great piece and a great arrangement. The Lettermen version does not have the multiple chord progressions that I feel get in the way of the song.

Powerful Ideas | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) performed by Beach Boys
These are powerful and poigniant lyrics. I suspect many people simply listen to the melody and write the song off as another cheery or light weight Beach Boys pop tune. "In My Room" is another deceptive example.
Dreamy | Reviewer: Rick
------ About the song Disney Girls performed by Beach Boys
I can listen to hours of Beach Boys' music, all while working, or running on the treadmill, or doing whatever I have to do... but when Disney Girls comes up, I just stop... close my eyes... and listen. One of the most beautiful songs ever by The Beach Boys, on a wholly-underrated album. I adore this song.
Beautiful song! | Reviewer: Ver'onica from Argentina
------ About the song Wouldn't It Be Nice performed by Beach Boys
I love this song since I heard it in the movie 50 first dates! It produces an unexplained emotion to me! And I dedicate it to Mariano, the man with who I see the movie, and who has a great part of my heart... I love him...
Amusement Parks U.S.A. | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Amusement Parks, U.S.A. performed by Beach Boys
This song is just fun. It's got beautiful harmonics and sounds like it could have been a (happier) song on Pet Sounds. Many criticize the song for it being a "throwback" to their earlier days, particularly the song "County Fair" from Surfin' Safari, but it's no different from the other songs at the time in its musical beauty. Especially the melody and music behind, "Let's take your car and do Amusement Parks U.S.A.!" followed by "Let's take your car and mess around at the park all day!"
One of the best | Reviewer: Rosie
------ About the song Don't Worry Baby performed by Beach Boys
I never get tired of "Don't Worry Baby". Brian Wilson has so much heart and soul and his voice always gave me chills. I much preferred hearing him sing leads rather than Mike Love and his nasally somewhat off key voice. From the beginning drum beats coming from nowhere to the soaring vocals, this was one of Brian's best.
Amazingly beautiful | Reviewer: Rosie
------ About the song God Only Knows performed by Beach Boys
To this day I still don't understand why "Pet Sounds" was not promoted and was not considered great. I was blown away with. I bought it with some of my graduation gift money and nearly wore the album out. "God Only Knows" was a masterpiece. Mike Love was so wrong about the music. But then I guess to this day he would rather sing about cars and girls....Brian simply grew and expanded his music to a higher and bigger level. Thank God for that. I loved the Beach Boys and as their songs and music grew in complexity I loved them even more. It is a shame that Capital and Warners Brothers did not see Brian's music for what it was...instead it was in Mike Love's words..."don't screw with the formula". God bless Brian Wilson for having the courage to go on to higher music and share it with us.
Absolutely underated | Reviewer: Rosie
------ About the song Please Let Me Wonder performed by Beach Boys
Songs like this reflex the growth in Brian's music and his expanding talents. Many times his cousin Mike Love referred to Brian's music as his "ego music" which showed his complete lack of understanding and maturity. I can only wonder what the beach Boys could have developed into if Brain had not become so ill and if the othres in the band would not have been so afraid to follow his lead. Mike Love was nothing without Brian. To this day I believe he still does not see that. Brian gave us soaring vocals and melodies that will never grow old.
not brian???? | Reviewer: doug
------ About the song Surf's Up performed by Beach Boys
javawave writes;
I wish to add to the wonderfully prosed reviews one salient point. Carl sings this song not Brian. His vocal range is sweetly stylized and sympathic to the lyrics. I recommend track 28 on disc 2 of the Good Vibrations Thirty years of the Beach Boys compilation to hear Carl's backing vocal and piano."
Sorry, but the surf's up version has Carls vocals on the first part, then brians vocals from his 1966 demo on the second part. The track referred to in the box set is brians vocal and piano solo demo from 66.
Shouldda been here yesterday! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Feel Flows performed by Beach Boys
If you're one of those who have come late to the Beach Boys, maybe via a movie...gee, you shoulda been here yesterday, or rather, between 1964 and 1973. We didn't have MTV back then, just transistor radios and the records we bought. Through those media the Beach boys provided untold consolation and solace for me (and many others, I'm sure) during a difficult adolescence and through some very strange times. If you like this song, do yourself a favour; get hold of the albums Surf's Up, Holland, Pet Sounds and Brian Wilson's recent release of Smile. You won't regret it. This stuff lasts forever. As somebody once said, it sounds like angels singing.
Heartbreakingly beautiful. | Reviewer: Freddie
------ About the song Disney Girls performed by Beach Boys
A hymn to lost innocence and possibly the finest song Brian Wilson has yet written. Right up there with "Caroline No", "The Warmth of the Sun" and God "Only Knows". Especially poignant for anyone who yearns for those simpler times of the early 1960's when life was a little slower, a little simpler and somehow, a lot more certain. In the context of what was happening in Brian's life at the time, it seems incredibly sad that from such pain, such beauty as this should grow; and yet every time I hear this song I float away in a soothing, peaceful dream. It offers the sweetest consolation to know that I'm neither the first nor the last to long for what's lost.
"Oh reality, it's not for me"...indeed, Brian.
