Bad Lyrics - U2

Review The Song (28)

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would
Let it go

If I could throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

To let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Blue silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go...

This desperation
In temptation
Let it go

And so fade away
To let it go
And so fade away
To let it go
And so to fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

Bad is great | Reviewer: Mike D 19064 | 3/13/14

From listening to this song as a teenager, to when I first saw rattle and hum,a freaking powerful song w/ strong lyrics that gets me fired up everytime I hear it, wanting to sing w/ Bono or cry for his pain - Raw powerful emotion, the live version resignates through my veins, heart and soul - truly a masterpiece and I would say one of the best songs out there ever

Jackass | Reviewer: WillFiggs | 11/26/12

The live aid performance was awesome! Hard to believe the other band members were considering firing Bono after he went missing in action. How could you fire someone after such an out of this world performance! They were supposed to sing Pride as well, but Bono had wasted too much time being a jackass!

Fantastic Song | Reviewer: addnan ackber | 10/26/11

I heard this song first line, watching a background movie song. Since, U2 is my favourite band, am a pakistani, but people will go mad when they think about pakis are most frenzy about western bans. I am crazy about this song. My wife also like it a lot....... I have got all the albums of U2. Fantastic song...... With or without you, Bad, and Lemon. wowwwwwwwwwwww

Heroin overdose | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/21/11

I'd love to die of a heroin overdose. The world is so fucking bad. Its all to teach us a lesson too. God let us live in imperfection because of Adams rebellion. We are suppose to deal with it. Well I want a heroin overdose. And these lyrics? pretty fragmented and dicsonnected. It might mean something to him, but not me. I wish it did because musicaly it is very beautiful.

"If I could, you know I would..."

The intention was there but salvation was far off. In moments of personal destruction, you need a friend, that sticks closer than a brother-you need God. Only God can-

Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

Memories of my father | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/17/11

I heard this song on my way home from finding out my father had terminal cancer in 2005 (on my 40th birthday!) I couldn't recall ever hearing it, but at that moment, I had to pull over and bawl my eyes out, it was just the craziest emotions I have ever felt. Like Bono's friend, my father was an addict; fortunately he was able to get help and I got to know him in the last 10 years of his life and realilzed how alike we were and that he was my BEST friend.

I lost him a year later (he was only 61) and every time I need him close by, I crank out "Bad" full blast and sing and cry to my heart's content.

My son now is battling addiction and once again, I find myself at the mercy of Bono's voice and the bittersweet melody of Edge's musical talent in this song.

I thank you Bono from the bottom of my heart for this song and another song you wrote when your treasured father passed away "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own". As Father's Day nears, I am feeling so blessed I had my Dad but I am finding it so unfair I had to say good-bye so early. God Bless you Bono in missing your beloved father. - Kari from Canada, eh!

bad is good | Reviewer: jefferson | 4/10/10

First time I listened I was about 16. In Brazil. I´m 41 now. It was the fisrt song of the whole 80´s thing and the post punk scene that got to me. It is the melody and the power of taking me back to great times that does it for me. The meaning of the lyrics is great and deep and all, but you see, I did not know any English when I fell for BAD. So what remains is that sense of finding a song that was entirely mine, that belong entirely to my generation. T´was like it belonged to me , my friends and no-one else. Know what I mean?

not alone | Reviewer: PAL | 1/31/10

I have loved this song since the first time I heard it. Is in my top three songs of all time. I was really glad to see from these reviews that I am not the only one who is so touched by this song. I agree with almost every word of every review. This was U2 at their best.

Best song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/1/09

This is one of my favourite songs ever and Bono just sings this with so much meaning and about his friend. This is such a strong and powerful song and I can never get sick of hearing it and play it all the time and each time it has more meaning when I hear it. Truly a great hits song!

Live Aid | Reviewer: Brian | 5/21/09

The Live Aid performance was memorable because of what Bono did during the song. He jumped off the stage to help a girl who was being crushed by the crowd when they suddenly surged forward, pinning her against the barrier. He then pulled over the barrier and began dancing with her. The crowd went crazy when they saw this!

let it go...find a way | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/9/09

what can I say every time i hear this song i feel such a power..there is somethig in this song that tell you to not surreder, to go on, that you have something to said or do, that you have to give it all.

Progress | Reviewer: Fed Rally | 1/21/09

This is a journey, through the end of a romance with hard drugs, and each verse progresses as such. The overwhelming feeling of devotion and desire could choke up just about anyone. The vocal styles Bono incorporates to express raw emotion at specific parts of the song are flawless. Songs that more or less keep the same rhythm throughout eight minutes tend to lose power as they progress, however The Edge's harmonically bitter-sweet melody continues to enthrall the listener with each cycle. This song is strong enough to stand with the best of Joshua Tree as far as its meaning, passion, and/or structure are concerned. I love this song, no matter which version I listen too.

Meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/26/08

I actually have a live recording of Bono explaining what this wonderful song is about. He wrote it for a good friend of his, a professional soccer player, who on his 21st birthday died of a heroin overdose.

Some of the best songs written come from tragedy.

Awe Inspiring | Reviewer: Silent Soul | 3/15/08

I listened to this song so many times in high school not really looking at the lyrics but very much liking the melody. Ten years later, I ended up homeless and in need of help in my life. I learned what true friendship means... Now when I read the lyrics I well up in tears. I can't believe it is the same song. Bad is truly a masterpiece.
