Azure Ray hails from Athens, Georgia, the city that spawned bands like R.E.M. and the B52s. Maria Taylor (vocals/guitars/keyboards) and Orenda Fink (vocals/bass/guitars/trumpet/etc.) are the women who make up the band, sharing the vocal duties. Taylor says their voices are similar, and people often can't tell the difference between the songs that she sings and the songs Fink sings. Although they started up in Athens, Azure Ray is now based out of Omaha, Nebraska. They moved there in part because their boyfriends are located in Omaha and also in order to take part in the growing music scene in Omaha. The band is on Warm Records, but has released an EP (November) with Saddle Creek. Taylor and Fink also play in Now It's Overhead, backing vocalist Andy LeMaster. Fi More... However this person was just a friend and the writer never realized this friend was their true love. I think this song is about saying good-bye. It is a simple line, and you do hear it all the time. "Nothing survives" like, all the friendships you have tend to dissappear? She's not too depressed about all those good-byes, like she thinks she should be, but what really lasts? You can only be there for your friends, and you try to catch them when they fall, as in make mistakes. And the friend of friends has been around through all those good-byes. The last lines that say no one survives, is like, everyone dies, or everyone becomes jaded by all of the friendships that naturally wear away, or just fall apart, I can't exactly decide. Wondering if she's made something worthwhile out of this place is wondering whether or not her frienships have been worthwhile, otherwise they're a waste of time. Now for the meaning, at first I was pretty sure it was a love song. "It's just a simple line I can still hear it all of the time" I think she's talking about "I love you". Then, "Watching you run Watching you fall Fall into me " If you've ever heard the song "Crash into Me" by Dave Mathews, another one of my all time favorites, I think it's like that.
