Audience Of One Lyrics - Rise Against
Review The Song (7)
I can still remember
The words and what they meant
As we etched them with our fingers
In years of wet cement
The days blurred into each other
Though everything seemed clear
We cruised along at half speed
But then we shifted gears
We ran like vampires from a thousand burning suns
But even then we should have stayed
But we ran away
Now all my friends gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
Identities assume us
As nine and five add up
Synchronizing watches
To the seconds that we lost
I looked up and saw you
I know that you saw me
We froze but for a moment
In empathy
I brought down the sky for you but all you did was shrug
You gave my emptiness a name
Then you ran away
Now all my friends gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
We're all ok, until the day we're not
The surface shines, while the inside rots
We raced the sunset and we almost won
We slammed the brakes, but the wheels went on
We ran away
Now all my friends gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved
Runaway
But what are we running from?
A show of hands from those in this audience of one
Where have they gone?
The words and what they meant
As we etched them with our fingers
In years of wet cement
The days blurred into each other
Though everything seemed clear
We cruised along at half speed
But then we shifted gears
We ran like vampires from a thousand burning suns
But even then we should have stayed
But we ran away
Now all my friends gone
Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved

sigh. | Reviewer: Broom | 12/20/11
To me this song is about friends. How when you grow up and become distant ''Maybe we've outgrown all the things that we once loved'' and you try and keep it together but in the end you just give up and go separate ways.
''I looked up and saw you
I know that you saw me
We froze but for a moment
In empathy.''
It's like when you see one of your old friends after a long time and there's no hate just sadness and understanding at what you lost.
(like what anon said just before me)
loss of a friend | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/9/11
to me this song means so much more. i'm a military brat. and i've lost alot of friends, so many, that i'm kinda used to it and it doesn't hurt. but the part where is says "We raced the sunset and we almost won" to me it just says you can do all you can in the amount of time you get to spend with each other, but it still wouldnt be enough before you're ripped from each other's lives, and when it says "The days blurred into each other,Though everything seemed clear" it just says at the time you don't think about the time you have left, especially when you're young. when you're young time doesnt matter. and the part "We froze but for a momentIn empathy" really speaks to me because it explains once you've left a friend and then meet them again years later, you remember things that happened, but so much has happened in those years, they've met people, they've been through things with other people in their time of need when you couldnt be there not because you don't want to be, but because you're miles apart physically and emotionally. they just moved on.
Love song? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/14/10
This sounds kind of like a love song where stuff keeps getting in the way of the relationship so they broke up but just love each other so much and gave each other everything but ended up losing it all in the end
my definition | Reviewer: Scott | 10/15/09
sure ths songs music video is about 'Bush' bu i believe tis song is more than that, like "I brought down the sky for you but all you did was shrug" show ing hw we try to imprese people that dont really care about us and "But we ran away
Now all my friends are gone" showing how we can easily turn away from our friends and lose them, and finaly "The surface shines, while the inside rots" showing how this make make u look happy and cool to other people but its not what you truly want and it can leave you feaig empty inside
What this song means to me | Reviewer: Toothy =] | 9/17/09
This song is very hard to tell what it means because every paragraph has no many meanings.
The lines
"I brought down the sky for you
and all you did was shrug"
This is about so many times I've desperatly tried to make people happy so they will accept me, but in the end they just don't care...
wat it means for me | Reviewer: the biggest asshole ever ¨punk 2¨¨ | 5/5/09
this can mean a bunch of things,it has a different meaning for every single person,it has to do with bush,or mayb it means something else to u.but well i know that this song is just like anyother rise agaist is a great song.I love this band.Love u Rise Against.
well for me this means many things but one deep one is that it makes me think of how stupid i have been with everyone around specially those i love the most.and i have ran away, instead of facing it yes i have been an asshole a coward.im sorry for running i should have face the truth i m sorry for doing wat i did you may never forgive i understand, just wanna let u know that im sorry.im telling this to a someone that is really mad at me.im just expressing myself here.im sorry and well i feel so trashy i seem to ran away all the time im tired of running away im sorry im an idiot.im sorry for wat i ve done it seems that i ruin everything,im sorry i will never b good enough for anyone anyway.im sorry if i hurt which im sure that i did it seems that i do everything wrong.
this song is a great song just like every other Rise Against song!!

Great song with an awesome music video. About a kid playing the role as George Bush and, playing with a bunch of little figurines, and he has stuff like bordering the u.s., and putting oil machines evrywhere, and fighting in the Iraq war, and Gay marriages. Which, in my opinion Bush did a great job as president, but he was just stuck in a bad time.
