Atmosphere Biography

Review The Artist (6)

After over a year of major label courting from Interscope, Sony, Warner Bros, Atlantic and Universal, Minneapolis indie Hip Hop powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment and Atmosphere have opted to pass on all offers and continue forward with their independent approach at changing the game. With the majors left behind, Rhymesayers has found a kindred spirit with the seminal Punk label Epitaph, and a worldwide licensing deal will be releasing Seven’s Travels, the brand new full-length CD from indie Hip Hop troubadours Atmosphere on September 23rd.

Atmosphere consists of Slug on rhymes, Ant on beats and resident DJ Mr. Dibbs. Due to years of touring and Slug’s personal lyrical style Atmosphere has become legends in the underground Hip Hop scene and beyond. With a massive following of not only die-hard Hip Hop heads but indie rockers, punks, and not to mention one of Hip Hop’s largest female followings, Atmosphere is breaking down barriers and expanding the definition of what Hip Hop can be in this day and age.

Seven’s Travels is the 4th Atmosphere studio album and takes you on a metaphorical journey with Slug (aka Seven) through politics, emotions and the physical. Once again Slug showcases a unique ability to transmit personal truths and experiences in a way that very few Hip Hop or any other form of popular music has been able to achieve. Not only has Slug enhanced his writing but the production of Ant has also become even more complex, rhythmic and funky. Simply put, Seven’s Trails is more energetic, passionate, funnier and wiser than anything they’ve done to date.

Many may wonder why an established Punk label would put out a Hip Hop record or possibly why a recognizable indie Hip Hop label and group would choose Epitaph to license a record to? Well, there has been a resurgence of the independent Hip Hop scene burrowing underground for some time now, creating a movement most notably represented by Atmosphere as well as like-minded artists including Living Legends, Sage Francis, EL-P, Aceyalone, J-Live, Aesop Rock and others that have established an underground phenomenon rooted in the same values and ethics that Punk Rock is, at it’s best, known for. Besides the similarities in philosophy this is all music and a wise man once said, “music, food and love are all universal and as long as it’s good, people will listen, eat and f_ _ _!”

Inadequate Emcee And Im Still Holding The {M}{I}{C} | Reviewer: BaSick-Alphabit | 7/30/2007

I have to admit that seven is a sick emcee, but the reason that no alot of people listen to him is because HIPHOP is CORPORATE (RAP IS).. the Radio tell you what to listen to, they dont ask you what you want to hear, and thats basicly the downfall of this music gender of music..
is not dead. is just resting in deep as of now.
and emcees like SLUG and IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE, MASTA ACE, TONEDEFF, CUNNINLYNGUIST, OUTERSPACE, AND OTHER GREAT EMCEES are doing a good jod tryin to wake it up...
HIPHOP is coming back in a brand new ERA.

Taking hip-hop to another level !!! | Reviewer: Mike | 5/30/2007

Sluggo's dope, his lyrical talent takes you away into a zone. Completely unpredictable and 100% entertainment, no matter who you are. Ant brings everything together, seemingly effortlessly.
With the overcast album spawn joined and he is absoloutly flawless but with a more 'hip-hop' attitude, compared with Slug.
I've got the majority or demo's, albums and mixes released or un-barcoded and I'm yet to find a song I don't enjoy.
In my opnion, Date with Divinty / God's Bathroom Floor is one their best songs, or maybe smart went crazy...

What else can I say but "THE SHIT" | Reviewer: Darian | 8/6/2006

These guys are fucking awsome together!!!!! I'm not a big fan of rap (actually in my opinion all that rap is, is clicks and whistles :) ) but I heard this and sat my ass down for a good listen. when you find a lyricist that is as good as slug it's hard not to like it. the first song that i heard was "love life." talk about powerful lyrics. no one can match his devotion to his music. his lyrics hit home so fast you don't see it coming. simply put, it's F**KING AWSOME!!!!!!!!!! enough said.

slug is the greatest lyracist alive, and dead, of all time. he is my idol. the way he puts his words together, its unreal. back when overcast came out, and slug was still with atmosphere, the music they made, i dont understand how that album didnt go 5 times platinum. maybe hes just too real for the rest of the hip hop world, but you can actually relate and understand what hes saying, theres no other way to put it, you just have to listen to the man. greatest music artist ever, of all time.

Atmosphere has a sound that is simply great, doesnt need to talk so much of fame and how many hate, just that life is here and what we have should appriciate, some of the great never even put a state to their ment cause they hesistate, they didnt seem to know their fate but doesnt matter it was what they make, up as long as they keep the rap cup a shake im gonna keep eating it up till nothing left on my plate
