In January of 2001 vocalist Tim Lambesis left Texas-based Societys Finest to return home to San Diego where he and long time friend Evan White began writing music for what would become As I Lay Dying. With a strong vision already in mind they began gathering some of the city's great musicians. Drummer Jordan Mancino had recently left Edge of Mortality, and Brandon Hays, previously of The Frontline, joined later that year. After establishing their new lineup, the bands debut record, "Beneath the Encasing of Ashes", was written in March of 2001 and released on Pluto Records. The album is the top selling Pluto release to date.

Having completed their first tour immediately following their release, these guys have become known for their passionately energetic, neck-snapping performances. Since early 2001 As I Lay Dying has embarked on four major tours and have made a name for themselves across the U.S. They have shared the stage with bands such as:

Poison the Well, In Flames, Hatebreed, Shai-Hulud, Zao, American Nightmare, Bane, From Autumn to Ashes, Sick of it All, Snapcase, Dillinger Escape Plan, Evergreen Terrace, Hopesfall, Nora, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Twelve Tribes, Fall Silent, Curl Up And Die, Stretch Armstrong, Papa Roach, No Innocent Victim, Page 99, Living Sacrifice, The Deadlines, Embodyment, Travail, The Deal, Figure Four, Officer Negative, Norma Jean, Spitfire, Dogwood, Between the Buried and Me, 18 Visions, Bleeding Through, Spoken, Soul Embrace, Point of Recognition, Every Time I Die, Unearth, Andrew W.K., Throwdown, Underoath, Boy Sets Fire and many others.

With a solid and hardworking group of musicians in place, As I Lay Dying was able to write an evolved follow-up to "Beneath the Encasing" released as a split with American Tragedy on June 18, 2002. Since that release, guitarist Jasun Krebs (formerly Edge of Mortality, Wreckingball, Scratchline) joined the band, adding a new dimension to their overall sound and live performance. Through style changes and a dynamic improvement in songwriting, their music continues to develop a heavier, more creative and emotional sound.

AS I LAY DYING is:
Tim Lambesis - vocals, Jordan Mancino - drums, Phil Sqrosso - guitars, Nick Hipa - guitars

Review about As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying is amazing! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/10/2008

As I Lay Dying is probably one of the best Christian metal bands out there! They talk about God and have better, more meaningful lyrics than many other Christian bands. That's the way it should be when your a Christian band, and As I Lay Dying does exactly that. They have an awesome sound, and are extremely talented. Keep being uncompromising in your faith and in your lyrics, As I Lay Dying! You guys rock!

AS I LAY DYING ROCKS! | Reviewer: Luke Holt | 4/28/2008

Thee best band I've EVER heard! (: | Reviewer: Scott | 3/28/2008

So basically, I've been listening to this band from the beginning. I guess you could say I've watched them form from into what they are now. And I've always enjoyed the music they put out. Though with every record they have had a new sound(but that adds extreme diversity, and who want's to listen to something that sounds the same in every CD?), and new members, it's really been a great several years! And about the people who don't like it, hate it or love it, it's still an obsession! Tim, is an inspirational figure in my life, without AILD in my life, I wouldn't know where I'd be. This is one of the few bands that I know of that I could honestly say every member actually has talent!

Keep it up AILD!
And I'll keep listening! (:

I am a christian | Reviewer: cameron ratcliff | 2/22/2008

chill out | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/3/2008

As I Lay Dying are fucking kick ass - and i dont care if they are christian or what ever - i like the music - i can see that the lyrics behind it are sometimes driven by religion but who really cares? i mean if thats what the believe in then great and atleast they are making some amazing music rather than singing hymes all day in long white coats... but seriously - no offense to any religion is intended... but the dude that was asking for decent music - shut the fuck up - thats your opinion, well done for managing to state it *rolls eyes* - o and a question to him/her aswell - how the fuck would you know what snails fucking sounds like? you preverted or somethin?

As I Lay Dying | Reviewer: Someone you don't know | 1/11/2008

As I Lay Dying is my favorite band in the world. and im glad i can actually find a christian metal band that sounds good, im lovin it and i just dont know why atheists have to comment on religion type music like ASILD, these guys are fckin amazing! so what if they sing about God, at least we know where they are going, unlike you marilyn manson shit! Let me put it this way, if you heard this band without know that they were christian, you wouldnt know it. you'd probably think that theyre just another metalcore band. so Fck you atheists and burn in hell!

one of my favorites bands | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/27/2007

I like metalcore and also I am christain so they are my favorites and if you are looking for christain rock bands also search for: Demon Hunter, Flyleaf,The devil wears Prada and Kronicles
God bless you and keep rocking for Jesus

Why are you on a site commenting on a band that you aren't fond of? Don't you have something better to do with your time? Honestly, it's so irritating to hear people who don't listen or don't like metalcore. You have to actually LIKE the music to comment. AILD is one of the best bands you'll hear, not one of these high-pitched screamo emo bands that are popular now-a-days. Thank GOD this band could come through with all the bullshit carbon-copy bands out there today. Either really listen to the music or put your Panic! At The Disco CD in and rock to that. Don't trash an authentic band that has real, genuine talent.

i love these guys | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/10/2007

ok first off as i lay dying is one of the best bands out there. they have lyrics that actually mean something. the vocals guitar, bass, and drums are amazing. oh and the guy 2nd from the bottom should shoot himself in the face
