George Harrison Art Of Dying Lyrics

Last updated: 05/12/2014 07:30:31 AM

There'll come a time when all of us must leave here.
Then nothing sister Mary can do...
Will keep me here with you.
Nothing in this life that I've been trying
Can equal or surpass the art of dying.

Will you believe me?

There'll come a time when all your hopes are fading.
When things that seemed so very plain...
Become an awful pain,
Searching for the truth among the lying
And answered when you've learned the art of dying.

Are you still with me?

But if you want it,
Then you must find it.
But when you have it,
There'll be no need for it.

There'll come a time when most of us return here.
Brought back by our desire to be...
A perfect entity.
Living through a million years of crying
Until you realize the Art of Dying.

Can you believe me?

Transcending the body, and all of relative life | Reviewer: Patrice | 10/3/12

I love the way George doesn't advertise, but asks the question.
"Are you still with me?" ... are you putting two and two together?
This is song I would leave for my kids, for when I die, so they don't grieve too much. But it's still up to them, what thye make of the question.
I remember as if yesterday, my one-room flat in Bonn, West Germany, early Spring 1971, listening to this song in the weeks after I had learnt Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation. I felt I understood the question, and so have never missed a day's meditation since then. Thanks, George.

Two important lyric changes | Reviewer: Richard | 2/27/11

If you listen carefully the last line after each verse-chorus is a question.
There is a progression to George's questions that are poignant to the song that the lyrics I am finding as well as on the CD are missing. What I find say:
Do you believe me?
But you're still with me (not a question)
Do you believe me?

What I think they really say which makes the sense to the song is:
Do you believe me?
Are you still with me?
Can you believe me?

Hence posing the understanding of the "Art of Dying" to us all
Once again, an amazing song from George Harrison!!
